Poor BT line installation

My current BT line wiring appears to be in a poor state. Old cable with 3 small junction boxes (about 2 x 1 inch with no socket or faceplate) before the official BT master socket. I think these extra boxes are causing a bad line especially for broadband.

Can I get a new line installed in addition to my existing one and will it enable me to have a brand new line/cable and master socket as well as my existing one or will they just reuse old cable and box? If yes can I then cancel my existing line and transfer old number to new line?

you can order a second line and it should be installed to current standards. You can cancel the first line anytime you like subject to minimum contract terms.

You could ask BT to come out and replace that - it may cost but it'll certainly be less than a new X month contract for just a new line - and you'd not need to mess around transferring numbers or moving your broadband etc.

It is likely, even if you have a new line, that the same cable (other pairs) from the cab to the house will be used - so you'd be getting very little in the way of a 'new line' as it enters the house.

Anonymous, check this link out. Free line subject to some conditions which are probably worthwhile. I have read about some people having trouble getting this deal. Hang up and call again until you get somebody who recognises the offer and you should be fine.
