router configuration

Hi - I'm switching from ADSL to Fiber. I currently have a single ADSL Wi-Fi enabled Modem Router. The ISP is providing a Fiber Modem with a single port. 1) Will I be still be able to use my ADSL Wi-Fi enabled Modem Router (leaving the ADSL Modem part dysfunctional). I would hate to need to buy a new WIFI enabled router. 2) If I do need to buy a dedicated WiFI enabled router, which one is cheapest & best today?

Yes, you should be able to use that router just connect the single port router and to a LAN port.

Ensure you turn off DHCP on the old router though as your new one will likely issue IPs to your internal network.

If the supplied box is a modem (as in a cable modem) you will not be able to do this as it will only support one client.

If it has some routing functionality as the other poster has assumed (but I would not assume) then you will be able to do as you wish.

If not, you'll need a cable router (with an ethernet WAN port).

It is an Actiontec (GT704WR) Wireless ADSL Router. Do you think it will work?

Yes as it's a cable / DSL router.
I take it you are outside the UK ? As this would appear to be a commonly supplied router in the US.
In the UK an ADSL router has the modem built in rather than being a separate device.
