pc with wireless card as access point?

I've a spare pc that I've set up as a fileserver/syslogger/test box, that also has a wireless card in it. It's currently on a wired link to the router for primary access, but I'm wondering if I can configure the wireless card in it as a bridge to extent the wireless range within the house? (router is upstairs, server is downstairs)

I'm sure it's possible, just can't quite figure out how..

Any thoughts anyone?

can be done, some mobos had wireless incorporated and software to make them an AP.

What operating system ? See http://hostap.epitest.fi/ for Linux

OS is win2000.

The wireless card is a Zyxel G302 (freebie with my router)- I like it cos it's got a removable aerial, which means I could replace it with something on a long lead for optimal positioning.

Kinda wish the router itself had that option :-/

Yes it can be done but you will have to set it up as an ad-hoc network, either open with or at best WEP with a shared key. I network my iPhone to my laptop over wireless when I plug into a hotel wired network.
