Can I use an ADSL2+ router on my ADSL Broadband connection?

[link to this post]

Hi,

I currently have a basic PlusNet Value ADSL package max 8GB. For this broadband connection I have been using a "Belkin ADSL Modem with Wireless-G-Router FSD7632-4." This has for some reason stopped working totally. I have repeatedly restored the factory settings & rebuilt but with no joy. Occasionally it works for brief periods but the majority of time it doesn't establish a broadband connection. Broadband is working though as a can get a connection using a Voyager 105 USB ADSL Modem.

My question is can I use an ADSL2+ router for this broadband connection? In particular a D-Link ADSL2+ DSL-G624T Wireless Router.

Thanks in advance

Yes, you can use an ADSL2+ router on an ADSL1 connection.. they are backwards compatible.

Can I use an ADSL router for an ADSL 2 connection?

Basically I have arranged an internet package upgrade for my company but the new package requires an ADSL2 router to achieve the speeds, however, we don't have one can we use the old router for now and then upgrade it or will it not work?

Maybe.

If the equipment at the exchange is not locked to ADSL2+, it should work fine. However, if it is locked to 2+ at the exchange, it may not sync and you'll need to ask the ISP if you can use the ADSL1 (G.DMT) modulation (or multimode) instead.
