NetGear DG834G and BT's 20Mb service

[link to this post]

Hi,

As my local BT exchange is now geared up for the 20Mb service I can upgrade for no extra cost. But I'm not sure if my NetGear DG834G is compatible or not. Before I commit myself could someone please confirm if I can stay with my trusty NetGear or will I have to take one of the BT routers?

Thanks.

Cheers,
Ray.

My DG834Gv3 works fine (16Mbps on ADSL2+).

Thanks Geoff. That's a different model to mine and is ADSL2 compatible. I'm not sure if the 834G is. There's no point changing to the 20Mb service if my router can't take full advantage. I suppose that's what I need answering.

Thanks John. It sounds like I'll be okay. How do I determine my exact model type? v3? v4? Mine is just plain DG834G and the router software doesn't expand on that.

I'm relieved I won't need to go with one of thone BT routers. I have an old Home Hub still in the box and didn't want to have to go with their alternative.

The hardware version will be printed on the underside of the router. v3 or later will be fine. I think v2 is OK as well.

It should say on the label underneath on the base of the router.
Top towards the right hand side of label I think.

Can't be that different? Here I can go into the router settings "ADSL Settings" and have the options, Auto (multi mode), ADSL (G/DMT), ADSL2, or ADSL2+, I leave it on Auto, no probs
