Unknown MAC address on Belkin N & can't access web interface

[link to this post]

Hi. I have a Belkin N (not the visual model) which works just fine, with a couple of exceptions.

1. When I set up the router, I add all the MAC addresses for my wireless kit, but as soon as I enter the first one, a different MAC address appears - one that doesn't match any of my kit. I've checked that it doesn't appear as a MAC address of the router itself either. I always delete it before finally saving, but what could it be? The web front-end doesn't seem to poll and 'find' any kit, as I have to add them manually.

2. Second point is that once I've set it up, I cannot subsequently access the web front end. I get the 'cannot connect to server' message. The only way of getting there is to do a factory reset which is a pain..... Could this be connected to issue 1 above? I left the unknown MAC address in once, and still couldn't get to the web front end.

FWIW I'm an iMac user... Snow Leopard.

Do you still have a wired connection? I have the same router. There is a beta firmware revision (ends in .25)

Who is your ISP?

Thanks for pointer to .25 version. I've updated to that, and it seems to have sorted the issue of accessing the web front end. however I still get the unknown MAC address automatically appearing!

what are the first 3 bytes of this 'unknown' mac address?
with these you may find the manufacturer of the net interface.

I'd guess it's the MAC address of your ISP's router. Check the manufacturer (as mentioned elsewhere) - if it's "Cisco" then I think that solves it.

It starts with 00:1B:63 - and Googling that finds it's an Apple iPhone one (which I have along with other Apple stuff). So that looks like it. However - it isn't the MAC address I've taken from the kit to grant access to, so is presumably used for another purpose....

is there the slightest possibility that another house member or a neighbour also has an iphone and is connecting to your belkin?
