Hey everyone,
I've been struggling with BT's (2700HGV) hardware for a while now and it's driven me to go and find my own.
The 2700HGV had some sort of QOS setup that stopped anyone from using the WHOLE network whilst someone else was downloading/uploading.
As soon as we replaced it with a stand alone ADSL modem, the problem disappeared. But so did our ability to have multiple static IP's.
The hardware purchased (although very cheap) supports multiple IP's over one VC. The problem is, it doesn't provide any documentation on how to implement it.
BT are being their usual useless selves and won't help me without me calling their chargable team, despite them admitting their hardware has failed and offering us £80 to find a suitable replacement.
The ADSL modem is a generic one (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=222202) and is used widely across other devices such as TP Link. Yes, i know, really cheap. But it apparently supports multiple WAN IP addresses.
Could any one provide any advice on how to set this up?
I've setup the ADSL modem to use DHCP to get the gateway IP from BT and then I enabled the multiple IP address NAT setup, which asks me to map the internal LAN IP to the external WAN IP.
The only one that actually works, is when I map my Netgear router to the gateway IP. When I try mapping the devices that require a public static IP, it simply does not connect to the internet.
Is this a NAT related issue?
I'd really appreciate anyone's help.

Hi, I have my BT 2Wire 2700HGV setup for, static IP addresses 1 to 20, DHCP server 21 to 250, static IP addresses 251 to 254, everything works fine, I do not use QoS.

speaking generally, the WAN side of the router will get a public IP address via CHAP from the ISP. Out of the box it will give out local non-public IPs to the connected device.
To have static IPs on connected devices the first thing to do is to configure those devices to have the relevant IP.
The next thing is to tell them the IP of their default gateway ie the LAN side of the router. This will need to be given an external (public) IP address which conventionally is not the same as the WAN side, although some routers do run with the same LAN and WAN IP. IN some cases you can set an external IP on the LAN side as well as the internal, using an option provided for this scenario. I have a Netgear 834 working like that.

To avoid any confusion, it's an ADSL router so the ADSL modem is integrated.

Anyway.
Yes, just to confirm, I have an ASDL Router and a standard Wireless Router (separate.)
BT have given me a block of 5 IP's. x.x.x.217/29 with a "management ip" of x.x.x.222
Am I right to assume that when assigning static IP to my devices the gateway IP is the x.x.x.222?
If that is so, would BT translate x.x.x.222 to my actual gateway that was assigned via DHCP?
Unfortunately, I only get about 30 mins every morning to play with it until someone turns up and needs the internet.
So... Suggestions? The device supports multiple public IP via NAT? It the allows you to map internal IP's to public IP's, like the 2700HGV. Although, I have a feeling that static routes are required and when I try to implement them, only the internal network (provided by the wireless router) to gateway (the DHCP IP supplied by BT) works.
BT refuse to supply any other device and also refuse to suggest any other device that would be suitable. My boss isn't happy with paying for hardware that really, he shouldn't have to because he's paying out of his backside for the hardware/service that doesn't work correctly.

Well i've had a play this morning...
I've setup the ADSL modem's DHCP to assign my static range. So my wireless router now has a static IP of x.x.x.218. The ADSL modem's IP is x.x.x.222.
With this, I was able to access one of the machines (smtp server) on x.x.x.217 external to the building but now that's stopped working.
As soon as I enable multiple IP mode, none of my network works. I assume this requires routing setup and I have no idea.
Any idea's on how I can progress?
