Making a wired ip camera wireless

[link to this post]

I need to make use of an old ethernet ip camera but can't get an ethernet connection to where it needs to be.

There are two possible solutions I can think of. Buy a doodad that will turn a normal ethernet socket into a wireless one (like a usb wireless adaptor but it uses an ethernet socket) or plug the ethernet camera straight into a laptop that has wireless and an ethernet port and somehow make it so that it will record to that laptop and still be visible on the network at large at the same time. I can't move the wireless router closer to where the camera is as the router needs to be close to the networked printer.

I'd prefer a cheap doodad as having a laptop near to the webcam will be a pain as it means finding another electrical socket and there's only one spare on the ups where I want the camera.

I was looking at ip cameras that record onto SD cards as it means you don't have to leave a machine running for the recording but the decent one is about £150 which is a bit on the expensive side.

Are there such doodads? I haven't had much luck trying to find one.

Ooh. Yes. Just that kind of thing smile

I managed to try it out but it seems to be broken. Can't find it on its old ip or the default one after resetting it. Bum.

Might have to get one of these instead.... http://www.solwise.co.uk/webcams-c1062w.htm Got pan & tilt. Think I could live without sd card recording for pt action grin
