new PC slowing down my internet ??

[link to this post]

from EDFDAVE (I have registred but the forum won't recognise me !?);

I have a home network connecting to the internet via a netgear router that I set up a couple of years ago via a wired connection to my desktop PC. I use a couple of XP netbooks wirelessly also (plus ipods). I have since bought a new PC with Windows 7 and connected it wirelessly to the network. They all work except my internet connection on my old PC and netbooks is REALLY slow when the new one is switched on. They all run McAfee security. Any ideas ?!

Can you monitor the internet usage on the new Windows 7 PC? Perhaps it is hogging all the bandwidth?

Have a look at http://www.thinkbroadband.com/tbbmeter.html

If you connect the Win7 PC via Ethernet does the problem go away?

from EDFDAVE:

Thanks for the suggestions ... regards possible "hogging the bandwidth" ,,, what would I see if I use this tool which would confirm that this is the case. I'm a total novice but the expression certainly sounds like what the new PC is doing i,e, not letting my old PCs get a look in.
