Loss of connectivity after Standby

[link to this post]

My new laptop loses the network (wireless) connection on wake from Sleep Mode.
The icon has a red cross and there's a message to say 'connection disabled'
This happens if it's been asleep for over about an hour. I seem to remember that there's a quick fix for this but I can't recall it. It's an Intel Centrino Advanced N 6200 AGN card.

Disable the Wi-Fi card and then reenable it, 75% of the time I find it fixes it.

OK, I'll do that (still feeling my way around Win7, but I assume it's not too tricky). But I thought there was some setting that stopped this problem from occurring in the first place.

You may be able to disable power saving, but thats harder to find than enable/disable adapater

But permanently disabling power saving on the card might help it. If you go into the device settings of the card in device manager there may be an option for controlling the power saving on the adapter. Can't remember exactly where it is now though.

EDIT: Other option of course is just to try google which gave this possibility if it is Windows 7.
This google search seems to come up with other potential hits.

Windows 7 does not handle wake from sleep mode very well. Microsoft have acknowledged this and have only issued a partial fix so far. It is possible that the issue will never be fully resolved. On my lappie, I can't even get the graphics adapter to power up. frown

Thanks for all that. I've unticked the box for allowing Windows to switch off the card to save power, so I'll be going into Standby for a couple of hours while I'm down the pub tonight - let's see if it works.

I've had a similar problem with a Win7 desktop - sometimes it took nearly a minute to reconnect wirelessly coming out of standby. However its OK now, possibly fixed after updating the wireless card drivers (Edimax EW-7128G Wireless LAN PCI Card 802.11b/g 54Mbp (Ralink.)

There is still one minor problem though: Win7 does not "see" all of the devices on the network when coming out of standby although it can still connect to them wirelessly via the router, e.g. the network drive on a XP machine is shown and can be opened but the XP machine it's self is, strangely, no longer detected in the Work group.
