Re: WGR614v9 as a switch

In reply to a post by MrSaffron:
A 5 port ethernet switch for around £20 would replace the WGR614 and avoid all your two network issues.

I've got a couple of 8-port Netgear GS108UKs arriving tomorrow. The WGR614 was an interim solution to allow more than one device to be connected instead of just plugging the PC into the faceplate.

The eventual set-up should be:

[DG834G]===[GS108UK(1) - Stora/PS3/Apple TV/Time Capsule]===[GS108UK(2) - PC/Network Printer/iMac/WGR614(Wi-Fi only)]

In reply to a post by MrSaffron:
Beyond that people are giving an alternative that should work with all the hardware you have

1. Turn off DHCP on the WGR614
2. Move the internet cable from the WAN port to a LAN port
3. Now any computer connected to the WGR614 should be seeing the DG834G - might need to reboot the computer for this to work properly.

DONT set the WGR614 to use the same IP range as the DG834G that will confuse matters.

I'll try this again.

Thanks to all for your help.

Thanks, it worked!

I'm getting the odd flakey bahaviour where my PC can't connect to the web for a few minutes at a time but I'll leave it as it is until my 8-ports arrive tomorrow.

When that PC cannot connect to websites, can it ping/see the dg834?

Yes. I can see my network and the router and switch. Re-booting the rooter fixes it for a few minutes then I go back to the little yellow exclamation in the Network icon on the taskbar.

The GS108s arrived yesterday and after a fer re-boots of the dg384 and PCs we're up and running.

Thanks again.
