I am trying to transfer some files around my home network.

I am trying to transfer some files from my Mac to my Popcorn Hour Media Player the speeds I usually get when doing this using FTP are 3.00MB/s but the speeds I am currently getting are 500kb/s.

I am with BT Infinity and to my understanding they only throttle bittorrent at this time of the day so that can't be the cause.

Any suggestions?

throttling / shaping/ etc is only on the public (bt) side,

suggest turn router (and maybe modem) (and maybe all computers) off for 10+ seconds, and try again.
ps if still slow: disconnect the bt modem just to reinforce that, that connection has no influence.

I did everything suggested but the speed is still the same.

You BB connection is independent of your local network, so as long as your are not simultaneously using the net, it should have no effect.

Wired or Wireless? If latter that is probably the reason.

Both the Media player and my Mac are connected using ethernet.

3Mega Bytes per second and 500 kilo bits per second - are those the speeds you are talking about?

How FTP and other systems report speeds varies in their units, so getting the case of the b or B right is very important.

It sure it is kilobits ad megabits that the speed is downloading and uploading at the strange thing is downloading works as it is supposed to but trying to move a file from one device to another or upload the file to a remote location the speeds are dropped from 3.0mb to 500kb. All of the devices I have tried to transfer the file to in my home network are wired connections and my Mac s connected to the router via ethernet as well.

Remember the broadband connections upload is a lot slower than the download speed.

If you pull out the DSL lead from phone line, are you able to still upload/download material to the machines on your LAN? Reason for asking is things are behaving as data is going out over the internet and back into the device, rather than an internal LAN connection

Why use FTP?

The popcorn media player supports SMB. Have you tried using SMB with it?

Also upgrade to latest firmware as there have been some bug fixes.
