Internet speed

Hi can anyone please help me, Im on orange broadband up to 8mb. Im only receiving 1.9mb on internet speed checker but my internal web browser on the livebox shows 5.1mb is this normal or should I be receiving the 5.1mb coming from the box??

Which internet speed checker, and at what time of the day.

www.speedtester.bt.com may provide some more useful data, ie a figure called the IP Profile.

Assuming speeds are good at offpeak times, and just bad when everyone is online, then the issue may be resolved by changing provider. Different providers offer different levels of service

Have used bt speed checker and its the same whatever the time of the day. Between 1.7 and 1.9mb, it doesnt seem to change!!

Are you connected wirelessly or wired with your computer? If wireless then you may just be limited by that.

No I am connected wired with no other devices connected. adsl filter is connected.

Which bit ? The results of the test, or the reported IP profile. All the numbers mean something so copy/paste and we can figure it out
