Range 10m, i.e. same room only, since walls are likely to block it It's approaching the far infrared, so blocking by solid objects is a dead cert.
OTOH, parabolic dishes are quite reasonably sized at those wavelengths (< 1mm) and should considerably increase the range for point-to-point applications- could be quite useful to get the internet down to your garden shed

Look at the proposed technology.
Tunnel Diodes (semiconductor devices with a negative resistance characteristic that can amplify) were supposed to be the saviour of the World 30-years ago; the next best thing to sliced bread!
So, why are we still eating sliced bread?

30 years ago, the power requirements and relative component size/count was a factor. However, given the frequencies concerned, I can see only very limited applications for this system.

30 years or so back, I tried to get a Tunnel Diode to amplify at 430MHz (high frequency in them days, but no more the case). Never got it to work, but the component count to do it was extremely low.
I am bemused that the majority of posts these days are all about their speed. Is this a male thing, like the size of their genitalia?
And before you ask, no I'm not!

Infrared is what most people standing near a radiator would call "heat". So do you reckon I could use my central heating system to distribute the internet?
