I need 6 ports ideally, 1 for the cable from router carrying the internet, 1 for ps3, 1 for xbox media centre, 1 for xbox, 1 for skybox and 1 for pc, currently have a 4 port Belkin router with 2 x splitters but the problem with the splitters is the games consoles refuse to get an ip address even if other device is powered off at mains and only the 2nd cable is removed which defeats the purpose of a splitter.
Just want something to transfer games and video files to my pc to my ps3 or xbox hard drives the fastest way possible, the seperate router has 3 connections of its own to sky box in bedroom, another xbox media centre and bedroom pc so sometimes its good to transfer to them too but obviously things will not be used at the same time.

6-ports now, how many in the future?
Find a 12-port and have future flexibility.
I use Linksys and they were bought by CISCO so no problems but then CISCO sold Linksys to Belkin! and I wonder if they are still as good.

Not a chance. Belkin will have destroyed everything they touched, looked at or said.
No fear though... Belkin often come with a lifetime warranty, so you can get it replaced monthly when it goes wrong.

When a port is not in use (i.e. unplugged or idle), that specific port goes into sleep mode, while keeping others working, thus saving power.
That's what lead me to buy it.

Belkin only offer a 2 year warranty. Here.
However, the original Linksys switches are still part of the Cisco family.

Another vote for the TP-Link stuff. I have a 6 and an 8 port, plastic case, bought from Amazon.
Cheap as chips and just work.

Cheap as chips and just work. I've got several of the 4-port ones so not entirely relevant, but I'll go along with that sentiment- plug 'em in, connect 'em up and forget 'em.
Maybe give them a flick with a duster now and then

+1
I have an 8 port (metal case); great value. Also have an even cheaper 5 port Tenda, plastic case, feeding the TV & PVRs through a homeplug. Seems to do the job well enough
