Extending cat5e cable length

Upcoming building work at home will mean that the patch panel for my home gigabit network will have to move about 2 metres and I'm pretty sure that 8 of the fourteen existing cables won't reach the patch panel once it's moved.

I could just replace the too-short cables but that's a huge lot of hassle and extra expense, so I was wondering if I'd be able to get away with just using cat5e junction boxes to extend them by the necessary length?

If I did that would performance be measurably affected? What other disadvantages might there be?

Or use the inline couplers on the same page- cheaper and a lot easier

they should work fine (on solid core cable).

How do you connect bare wire to that?

Should be fine provided you keep the untwisted sections as short as possible.

You can also get junction boxes that house 2 or 4 sets of connectors.

Crimp a plug on it first.

They're probably not the best solution for you- I didn't realise you had bare-ended cables when I posted the link.

But if you've got a a run between two items that's a few feet longer than your longest Ethernet cable, they're very useful

I have been trying to find a couple recently too - but without luck. I do have some installed here, but not easy reach and they were not branded - cannot remember who supplied them either.
