Upcoming building work at home will mean that the patch panel for my home gigabit network will have to move about 2 metres and I'm pretty sure that 8 of the fourteen existing cables won't reach the patch panel once it's moved.
I could just replace the too-short cables but that's a huge lot of hassle and extra expense, so I was wondering if I'd be able to get away with just using cat5e junction boxes to extend them by the necessary length?
If I did that would performance be measurably affected? What other disadvantages might there be?
