Using a spare router as a client

I have a spare BT router which I would like to configure as a client to provide wifi access for my PVR and remove the need for a long LAN cable .. I have searched the net with no real success in finding the 'How to do it'

I would be grateful for any pointers.

I think you want to set it up as an access point, not a client.

All you have to do is turn off DHCP on it, give it an IP address, set the wireless parameters - SSID, passkey, channel as desired, and plug the cable into the yellow LAN port, not the WAN.

Client configuration is different, for a different purpose.

This example appears to have an ethernet cable between the router and 'slave' .. What I am trying to do is effectively add wifi capability to a box which doesn't have it, and since I have the spare router I was hoping I could use to do that job.

I am having trouble here with terminology .. access point / client /etc .. I am trying to add wifi capability to a lan connected box which doesn't have it .. this then is using the router as 'Access point ' .. .. I will try to do as you suggest .. thanks

Is the box you refer to, the PVR? If so, you do actually need a client not an access point and I don't think the BT router will do that.

PVR .. yes .. calls daily for epg update via the net .. trying to get it wifi'd to the router .. hoped I could set up the spare router and avoid buying more kit.

Back to the drawing board .. (Ithink I have duffed up the BT router now with fiddling with it anyway)

I have been looking at that sort of thing .. I expect to be adding at least 1 other box alongside the PVR using wifi connection so want more LAN connections .. which is why I am trying to use a spare modem for the job .. there are sites which describe doing it, but I can't understand lots of the words, let alone the sentences ..
