RJ11 Pins 3 and 4 interchangeable?

Quick question guys,

I have an extension from the data extension terminals in my Openreach split socket running directly to an RJ11 into the modem, It works fine but i was wondering if it makes any difference which pin ie 3 or 4 is connected to the top or bottom pin behind the faceplate?
