Print via ethernet

Due to erratic wireless printing on my oldish Epson Stylus I have set it up to use ethernet.
BTHub5 - one port connected to printer and another to computer. Wifi disabled on laptop and good internet connection via the wire. But on the Hub's network map the printer shows as disconnected and only works sporadically (yes, it is switched on!). Do I need to tweak anything else?

Is there anyway to give it a fixed IP address with a long, long lease?

Just reduce the size of the DHCP pool and give it a static IP outside of the pool. Means a little manual configuration but avoids any lease issues at all.

In days gone by when I used to setup new printers on our network at work, I always set the driver destination port using the printer network name rather than the IP. I never had a problem or worries about DHCP changing the IP that way even though there were hundreds of devices running on the domain.
