Wifi hot spot from Gigabit Ethernet switch

HI

Anyone advise what I need to plug into a Gigabit Ethernet switch in my sons bedroom to enable him to have a reliable wifi signal there as he's too far from the router to get a signal at the moment.

I use spare routers with DHCP disabled and a non conflicting IP address to do this. You can buy WiFi access points, some are very powerful.

Oh I have an old Sky router. Would that work?

Managed to get it running but and there always is a but, my sons xbox wired connection is now trying to connect through the Sky router connected to the same gigabit switch. Very confused?

Did you turn off DHCP on the Sky box?

Yes in IPV 4 and IPV 6 and changed IP address to 192.168.0.250

Sorted. It did not like me changing the SSID and password.

Well I thought it was sorted, but now the AP router is interfering with my other sons connection to his PC on another switch in his bedroom.

The procedure is quite common and works for many of us. Make sure the IP address of the Sky router is outside the DHCP address range of your main router, you should be able to ping the address and probably access the Sky routers menu. I have the same SSID and password on both my main router and my access point router but I use different Wifi channels.

Thank you for the reply. Funny enough I was going to ask if this could be the cause as it makes sense.
