External Ducting Advice

[link to this post]

We are starting to plan some external work, including laying a new patio and I was considering running some ducting to facilitate relocating the master socket to the garage where my network cabinet is located (and also prep for FTTP when it eventually arrives). The current configuration is with the router in the living room and then connected by internal Cat5e to the network cabinet - which works, but is a little messy and I would prefer to have the router in the cab.

Is there anything I should consider/look out for? The run is around 20 meters, with one 90 degree corner.

I would use Openreach/BT spec 54mm grey ducting (available from all good drainage plastics suppliers 😎) with a gentle 90-degree bend and put a 6mm blue draw rope in there.

A 20m run is not too bad but you may consider putting a small lidded chamber(s) in too.

When we laid new U/G services - we laid a grey 54mm for BT, a green 54mm for VM and another 54mm 'spare' duct up to the footpath/boundary as a spare for future Altnet's.

Thanks for these - just what I needed smile

I hadn't thought of putting in any chambers, so that goes on the list.
