Opinions on Unifi Dream Machin/Dream Router?

Thinking of ordering the new Dream Router (when the UK one comes out) as a replacemnt for my Fritzbox 7530 as it looks like it'll allow me to segment my wirless network and hopefully give me a bit better wi-fi range while allowing me to set QoS.

One of my colleagues has his house decked out in Unifi gear and raves about it, really want to stick to a one box device (as the five ports will also allow me to remove a Netgear desktop switch I had to add.

Anyone got opinions on these devices?

It is unlikely there will be a "UK" version, just a European one - that has been available for a short while, although sold out on the Ubiquiti store. When it arrives with UK distributers they will supply a UK power lead with an EU device.

I use the FlexHD WAPs - just two needed to fully cover the house and large gardens compared to four previously - so excellent range and throughput. I can easily saturate my 300Mbps connections with WiFi speedtests from anywhere in te house and a significant part of the garden.

The PoE makes adding another WAP, if needed, quite easy, And if you do need another small switch their Flex Mini is minute!

I like their WAPs but there are better options for routers.
If you are set on a one box option though it is OK.

Cheers, looks to be single Ethernet job from the pictures.

Need to connect a work laptop, , my home PC, a synology NAS and a HIve Hub which is why I had to add a small Netgear desktop unmanaged switch which I'd like to get rid of.

First choice would be OPNSense or PFSense.
MikroTik maybe.

Cheers but am a set and forget type of person as do desktop support and server admin for a living so like stuff I can set and just check in on occasionally (I tend to pick stuff that's got auto update functionality) as I'm trying to reduce my time sat at the mouse and keyboard.

Fair do’s.

I’m not sure there are many that would advocate an auto update router/firewall but it’s your prerogative.

Like anything worthwhile, setting up a router/firewall manually does take time, even Unifi but then needs little attention tbh.

My router is set to reboot weekly and needs little else. Updating is one click on OPNSense for example.

After lockdown I did restart the Unifi SGW at work as it had been up for nearly 1000 days so can be fine if left alone if you do go with one of those but I guess it will be restarted more frequently 😉
