New Asus DSL- AX82U and RT-AX82U Routers on CF?

[link to this post]

Hi I'm on Community Fibre with the standard Linksys Velop Router WHW301.

I would like to install two Asus routers. one is an DSL-AX82U and the other RT-AX82U.

How to benefit from the WAN capabilities of the DSL model router?
Can I connect directly from the Modem and replace the Linksys Velop?
Would I be stuck using both Asus routers as extended secondary routers?
Are Asus devices compatible with the Linksys?

Saving space is my main priority here so was wondering if I could disconnect the Linksys altogether rather than have 4+ separate Internet devices: Fibre Modem + VoiP ATA + Router + Router.

Currently the only x2 Linksys ethernet ports are used up for the VoiP ATA box and the Fibre Modem leaving no available space for my wired devices to utilize the fast speeds unless one is unplugged.
I have also noticed the Linksys doesnt have sufficient WiFi coverage area for the rest of my house leaving blank spots which I would like to eliminate.

I have contacted Community Fibre Support on this matter but they didn't provide much help other than providing an instruction manual for my Asus router. I am not keen on using a Switch when I could just use a router instead.

Any further instructions would be greatly appreciated.

If not then, I'll have no option than to grab a Mesh system that works with the current setup.

Replying to my own post since I configured the devices successfully.

Called up Support Team for Community Fibre and they walked me through the process and set up my routers.

Modem cable connects to the WAN port on router and the rest is all handled on the ISP end.

A home network unless unusually complex should only require one router, so I am not sure what you are trying to achieve. Your PCs and other devices should connect via ethernet switches or wireless access points. Is this what your secondary router is doing for you? My logic would be the opposite of yours, always use a switch if you don't need a router, much simpler.

I would never let any ISP set up my own equipment, who knows what they have done but if it works for you that's OK. But what if you have problems with your home network, who is going to fix it? Will you have to call your ISP every time something goes wrong? frown

ASUS routers can be used to create a mesh (AiMesh) - I guess that's what the use of 2 is for.

I have an incoming line connected to ISP modem/router in the front room. A cat5e cable connects to a cable router, in the back room, which has far superior wireless capabilities.

The cable router is connected to a switch which connects to the tv, sky box, humax, PS3, etc.

The modem/router has a second cat5e going upstairs to another switch which is connected to other machines.

Not too taxing to set up but much better than a single router.

That setup would be totally unacceptable. Firstly I would never use an ISP supplied device, I don't know what yours is but most are cheap as chips and work for customers who think broadband is a Wi-Fi connectionsmile Also If you are connecting some devices to the cable router and some to the ISP modem/router both devices must be routing so you must have a double NAT situation for the devices on the Cable router, it can work OK but not recommended. The preferred set-up would be a modem or modem/router in bridge mode on the incoming line and all devices connected to the cable router.

It all works perfectly with little speed loss on any of the devices.

40/10 with actual throughput 35/7.

The ISP supplied device has rubbish wifi hence the cable router used for wifi. Cheaper that purchasing a better modem/router.
