Rg11

Im looking at using rg11 for a 750+ ft run, is this doable or is there a bet coax that can go that distance with little degradation?

RG11/U 1,500 ft (457 m)

Depends what your loss budget is? The option is to go to a larger gauge coax or hardline type cable over that distance, if it doesn’t meet the minimum signal level on RG11.

I didnt know that. But either way i need to know whats the best coax for an about 750 foot (213.36 meters) run with a very low loss percentage

Assuming you're extending cable TV coax, and looking in places like Lowes or Home Depot, you might find the boards at broadbandreports.com are more in tune with your needs.

The UK cable network is much younger and we don't have homes built with cable points around the house, the provider here puts the point where you want the modem, and drills through the external wall.

Its a shame when this board moved (back in 2004 or so?) from ADSLguide.org.uk to thinkbroadband... it didn't go with .co.uk :-/

The only cable franchise in the UK uses Amphenol cables branded as Times Fiber, from the Trishield 77% range. Here's the specs for the RG11 sized stuff:

RG11 will have somewhere between 12 and 22 dB of loss depending on the CATV frequency at that length. Very roughly!

So as said you really need to know what your signal level is coming in and what you need at the set top box / cable modem.

Otherwise go up in cable gauge as noted.

I never did understand that. Apart from .com is "quicker" to say.....

PS according to this it was 2006, how time flies!
