Router for 2.3gig internet

[link to this post]

I am changing from VM to Yayzi in a few months time and I am looking for a router.

99% of the routers I can find only have 1x 2.5gb wan port making it useless to use the full 2.3gig internet connection on my PC.

I did find this from asus
ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AX6000

and it does have 2x 2.5gb ports but does anyone have any other suggestions?

Have a look at the Ubiquiti UDM-Pro or UDM-SE - bith have a 10Gb WAN port and with IDS & DPI running they should give 3.5Gbps.

https://evanmccann.net/blog/unifi-routers-overview is an overview.

You would need to use the second SFP at 10Gb or the single 2.5Gb RJ45 (on the SE) for your PC.

The GL-MT6000 seems to be reviewed favourably

I just setup a dream machine SE as I'm on you fibre 2gb/2gb. I'm very happy with it. I'm using one of the 10gb sfp+ ports with a sfp+ to rj45 module connected to my 10gb switch for my lan side. All worked out the box.

Draytek Vigor 2962 or the more expensive 3912. You would need to supply your own Wifi kit and 10G switches to go along with these non Wifi routers.

I would agree with that

The 2962 is a brilliant router, not cheap, but well worth the money

As long as your happy with 1Gb ports out, then its excellent

Have a look at Mikrotik RB5009. It gives you a 2.5G port for WAN plus a 10G SFP+ port, and 7 more 1G ports. If you want additional 2.5G/10G LAN ports then you could add a switch with 10G uplink.

It has no built-in wireless, but there is a model which adds PoE so you could power external APs.

RB5009UG+S+IN (base)
RB5009UPr+S+IN (PoE on all ports)

I have the RB4011 which is effectively the precursor to this (no 2.5G port, single PoE out port). There is also a version of that available with wireless.

OP's requirement was specifically at least 2 x 2.5G ports, so the 2962 fails.

The 3912 meets that requirement but is madly expensive.

Feed the 2.5Gb into a 2.5Gb switch.
The prices are falling, slowly, and Amazon have https://www.amazon.co.uk/Umanaged-2-5G-10G-SFP-Wirel... at £50.

That doesn't work, because the WAN and LAN sides need to be separate (with a router in between).

That's unless the switch supports VLANs and trunking, which the cheapo unmanaged switch you showed does not; then you can carry WAN and LAN traffic as separate VLANs into a single 2.5G port on the router.

Even then, you wouldn't be able to do 2.5G up and down simultaneously, because the traffic would be traversing the switch twice.
