Load balancing router / firewall

[link to this post]

Good evening everyone,

I'm looking to get a another load balancing router / firewall with fail-over and hoping for advice / recommendations for any you may have used and worked well etc.

I going to retire my old one, that had 1x VDSL, 1x Ethernet and 2x USB WAN's, since I don't have a VDSL2 anymore for a back-up. So in nutshell I need to upgrade with a replacement with 2 or more Ethernet WANs so when I get connected to a 500 Mbps+ connection and my 5G Home Broadband I've newly acquired (which I'm getting between 150 Mbps and 600 Mbps on) for fail-over & load balancing. I would be interest in what's out there that works well enough on a Home budget, if could help please?

Many thanks in advance, Mark

I see you haven't had any replies to this question, but I'm looking for a similar router and am thinking of going for a DrayTek Vigor 2927 as it has 2 WAN ports and should work with my existing DrayTek routers at other locations for my LAN to LAN VPN connections. I think the main down side is that the WAN ports are only 1GbE each so not great for future expansion (I'm also using 500Mbps fibre).

Personally I'd go with the Netgate 4200

Thanks

I have the 2927 and it works fine. Used for a long time with VM, BT and a SIM dongle. The VM and SIM have since been "retired" as I no longer need the redundancies.
If you need more than 1Gb ports you have to go to the 3910 and it's eye watering price .....

I was very tempted by the 3910 but decided it was maybe a little too much for my needs. Even the 2927 is probably more than I really need but I have unreliable overhead fibre due to squirrels chewing through the cable on the pole (twice already this summer).

You can get the Draytek 2962, at about half the cost of the 39xx series, and it has one 2.5Gb WAN from what i can see.

We have the 2962 and it works great. The routing and NAT is done in hardware too, so performance is predictable.

It’s nice to have a router that you set and forget, just updating the firmware every so often.
