Fritz!Box and an ASUS linked

[link to this post]

For almost 21 months I successfully ran a Fritz!Box 7530 as my WAN connector/Digital Voice, with a wired connection to an ASUS DSL AX82U Mesh for my LAN.

Come a recent thunderstorm and my Fritz!Box fried (despite being behind a circuit breaker and nothing else was damaged).

Zen Internet (UK) sent a replacement Fritz!Box 7530 AX.

Using what I remember as my earlier settings I find the ASUS is now running with variable speeds to the Internet. The ASUS WAN port connects to LAN port on the F!B with a static address, with ASUS recognising the connection as static.

The F!B can't be put into Modem only mode, but a ZEN agent suggested changing a setting to allow pppoe pass - through which, I assumed means I can put the ASUS into pppoe mode to use ZEN username/password, but the ASUS won't connect to the Internet.

Can any one suggest settings that could affect the ASUS not getting its full speed from the F!B?

F!B Internet speeds in the order of 70Mbps Up 12Mbps down. Latest testmynet gives 4 Up 12 down...

The surge from te storm may well have come down the phone line rather than mains.

The lightning strike I had, blasted the eaves box 10m away, the BT Master into hundreds of pieces (and caught fire), the BT hub had the front sent right across teh room, wires vapourised and more, much more!

Guess I got really lucky when our chimney was hit, back in dialup days.

It blew a neon on the immersion heater switch which was right next to the chimney, fried the answering machine and my modem, blew a hole in the motherboards serial port controller chip that the modem was plugged into and killed every NIC on the LAN but not the machines, thankfully.

Surprisingly when I moved over to 10-BASE-T I found the RJ45 ports on those cards still worked, it had just taken out the diode on the 10-BASE-2 side I was using at the time. Not surprising I guess, diodes fail quick once you go over their rated voltage.

Lets just say even years later, I was glad to finally get rid of the telephone line when moving to fibre. The sound of every phone ringing like a horror movie sticks with you. Not to mention there was a cloud of smoke next to the electrical consumer unit, even though nothing seemed to be damaged in there.
