I've recently got my 100G backbone running at home - well 100G from router, to main switch and across a 100G BiDi link to subsidiary switch and more gear in another room.

1.6 Tbps đŸĨšI feel so....

.....inadequate now. Just 1/16th of the man I was. Oh the shame 😅

Wow, 100G at home... and I was still thinking about 2.5G đŸ¤Ŗ
Welcome back BTW.

Thanks nice to have the time away...and to be back here!

Yes 100G is complete overkill, but falls somewhere between experimental/hobby and just for laughs. đŸ¤Ŗ

In Suffolk I kicked off on fibre in big way when we did the first big round of work on the property in 2013/14. I linked house / barn / outbuildings / gates with runs of 4-core single mode in direct buried SWA. We were simultaneously digging to put in upgraded electrics and water in MDPE so this made sense to trench in at the same time.

This enabled us to push WiFi where we previously had no internet access or mobile service that was barely one bar or none. Subsequently we ran PoE based cameras locally, outdoor APs, video doorbells and gate and access control. Most of that’s now sitting on 10G BiDi as they were a relatively cheap upgrade from Gig SFPs initially installed and provided oddles of bandwidth.

When FTTPoD came in 2018/19 we finally were brought fully into the modern age, did away with a 4G outdoor antenna / router. Barely a few years prior it was 1-2 Mbps on long line ADSL.

That's awesome!

I'm currently looking at the best way to get fibre to my shed that is over 50m from the house so I can install some CCTV cameras.
I may go overhead on a drop wire to save digging up the drive.

Thanks
Dan

Telling you how to suck eggs Daniel no doubt, but if you’re going aerial make sure that cable has no conductive strength members if you can. Even if you chuck it in the ground and use something like SWA cable, properly ground the strength wires at both ends - you never know when equipotential issues lurk in a lightning storm. ⛈ī¸
