The one broadband settings Asus GT-AXE16000 Speed Issue

So i have been on the one broad band 2.2Gb service for a few weeks now.



i am using an Asus GT-AXE16000 router,



I have got it to work etc, However I cant seem to find anywhere what settings you should change in the multiple options on the router it self. I mean there is so many I just want to make sure it is all connected/Setup in the best possible way to get best results,



I have contacted TOB support and there reply was we don't know/support 3rd party routers. i asked them for specific setting they require for there service.



Basic Config - Enable WAN: yes / no - Enable NAT: yes/no



WAN DNS Setting - DNS Server: - Forward local domain queries to upstream DNS: - Enable DNS Rebind protection: - Enable DNSSEC support:



Prevent client auto DoH: - DNS- over-TLS Profile: The default is [ Strict ] mode. In Strict Mode, only allow the use of a DNS server if the identity of the remote server can be authenticated. In Opportunistic Mode it will attempt to authenticate, but will still use that server if it fails to authenticate its identity , allowing name resolution to still work properly.



Account Settings PPP Authentication: - The default is [ Auto ]. Other options are [PAP] and [CHAP], which are used to verify the identity of the PPP device. - MTU: The Maximum Transmission Unit(MTU) of PPPoE packet. The default value is 1492.MRU: - The Maximum Receive Unit(MRU) of PPPoE packet. The default value is 1492. Internet Detection: Options are [ Disable ], [ PPP Echo ], [ DNS Probe ]



Special Requirement from ISP



Enable VPN + DHCP Connection: - Extend the TTL value - Spoof LAN TTL value



Also depending on what speed test I use I get very different results. That is why I am thinking maybe I need to change more Detailed options on the router it self.



I am connected to the ONT using a 2.5Gb port.



Then connected to my pc using a 10Gb port.



Any and all info help support would be amazing

Are you doing speed tests wired or wireless? If wireless then you are going to have very variable results. Even wired the speed tests may not be able to sustain speeds of 2.2Gb/s as this is a very high speed to do testing on.

No: none of those settings need changing, and will not affect performance.

If it's working, it's working. (For example: authentication either works or it doesn't).

You will certainly find that many remote speed-test sites are not able to saturate your full link speed. That's just how it is. It's a bit like motorway congestion: adding more lanes to the slip road isn't going to make the traffic flow any faster.

Any reasonably modern machine with a 10Gbps port will easily be able to sustain 2+ Gbps without breaking a sweat. That's not really a "high" speed these days.

Edit: example (this is a slow day on the Orbital speed test server, can usually bounce up to around 9400 Mbps both ways)...

I meant the speed test servers at the other end might not be able to consistently sustain 2.2Gb/s - not the local port.

True. There’s also a lot of variability between servers, just using Speedtest. One can very quickly can see which servers are capped at various speeds. Need to try several and over a period to get a meaningful insight. Even TBB chokes up beyond around 3.5 Gbps.

It could also be speed tests being impacted by the local processing power of the testing device or issues with the browser the testing is being done from.

In summary it could be :
1) Using WiFi
2) The remote speed test server
3) Processing power on the test device
4) Browser issues/plugins/etc
5) Dodgy network cable

Possibly some other things - but until all of those are ruled out I wouldn't assume that it is router config.

Most of the items on your list can be confirmed by connecting the host machine directly to the Ethernet port on the ONT.

Perhaps when the OP is finished writing posts all over Reddit etc. we can try and help them. 🤣

Yup. Add in that pon by nature is a contended service. Also that different browsers can give different results

Seriously though the OP has not given us any speed test results to help us to help him............
