Zyxel Mesh (Multy M1) routers are controlled by Zyxel????

[link to this post]

Having a major issue here, which has brought up this question.
It seems their latest firmware (after, apparently, saying the product is EOL and won't get any more updates) is "unstable" and has been removed. I've followed instructions and reset all three routers to the previous version (so the app and control pages say), but the problem remains. I'm following this up with Zyxel (although with very limited response from them).

However, the subject, all the network stats (which routers are connected, their setup, &tc) seem to be downloaded not read locally. Why do I think that? Because if there's no internet connection the stats don't display. When things change here (like one router drops out, or when it pops back in) it takes several minutes for the supplied stats (on the app and the local web page) to update to reflect the situation.

Am I being (overly) foolish?
If not, is this a standard mode?
I don't want a product that is continually monitored from the manufacturer. What's a sensible option?

Why would Zyxel want the stats off a load of EoL routers? And if they did, they could still keep the data displaying on your system. Remember that with data, stealing it is making a copy of the original and making the original no longer accessible to the owner is a separate operation of deletion.

Agreed. They wouldn't have been EoL when they set that up, though. Is it standard practice to collect data from routers in general?

I'm not concerned about it becoming inaccessible to me. My (a) question is do they have more than logging capability?

I'm fairly annoyed if they're logging.
I'm very annoyed if they also have control.
I'm absolutely livid if they just make the routers fail by deciding they're EoL.
Seems unlikely, but currently the routers are almost entirely unusable.

What is your problem? That Zyxel are logging your data? Or that the routers are not functioning as routers?

My problem is they're not functioning, full stop.
My question is, is that because Zyxel are doing more than logging. Are they logging my data?

If they are not functioning and are also EoL, then you could ask yourself whether it is worth the effort to get them working or if it is better to replace them. If you replace them, then that disposes of both problems.
