Unifi Dream Router 7 - Connectivity Issues

[link to this post]

Hi all,

I'm trying to get my new Unifi Dream Router 7 (UDR7) to work.
I managed to get it to connect to the internet (speeds appear to be similar to my TPLink AX1500 router) by entering my username, password and VLAN tagging ID 911

However, I noticed connectivity issues with the following applications (that I know off so far) - across various clients:
- Teams & Zoom calls not working or dropping off
- Nest Cams live feeds not visible in Google Home app or web app (however, the cams record and I can watch the recordings).
- Instagram and Youtube videos loading unreliably
- My Surfshark VPN app isn't working and doesn't connect on any device

Interestingly, the UDR7 also gave me a packet loss warning at some point. I am unsure if this issue could be related to some setting or bug in the UDR7's software.

My ISP is Aquiss - via Cityfibre.

I was wondering if there are any people on here who had similar issues with Unifi equipment before?

Many thanks!

Yes - https://community.ui.com/questions/Connectivity-Issu...

I just wanted to check if any UK users on here had similar issues with Unifi products in the past - thanks

Potentially an IPv4 versus IPv6 issue.

If IPv6 is running, which likely means your client device has an interface address starting 2a07:244:, then try turning off IPv6 for a while to see if the problems get better or worse.

Presumably, if you switch back to your AX1500, everything works fine?

Hi mate,

Yes - all fine on my TPLink. In fact, I now have the TPLink running in front of the UDR7 (configured on DHCP) and I have no issues. That sucks of course - but would indicate that it's a PPPoE bug in the software.

Some pings to various sites (including the UniFi gateway address) would be the best bet at logically proving or ruling out things.

Also check your DNS settings are correct.

If you are on 5Ghz, also try 2.4Ghz just to rule that out, vice versa.

Basic troubleshooting needed smile

When you're doing your testing make sure the TPLink is all switched off and not in the way of anything - mixing up devices etc will lead to confusion and the like.

Could also be an MTU issue - try lowering it and see if that makes any difference.

But one thing at a time...

In case people with similar issues see this -

TWO TEMPORARY SOLUTIONS UNTIL UNIFI FIXES THE FIRMWARE
- USE THE SFP PORT FOR WAN
- CONTINUE USING THE RJ45 WAN PORT - AND ENABLE SMART QUEUES IN THE INTERNET SETTINGS

Get an SFP or SFP+ to RJ45 and you can connect at 1Gbps or with the SFP+ 2.5/5/10Gbps.

That's what I did - got a 10gig adapter. But it did get very hot to the touch.
Might have to get an official Unifi one.

That's right. Silly prices.
Might just take the slower speeds into account and keep it on the RJ45 port with smart queues enabled until they fix the firmware...

I cannot understand that price .... it does seem excessive. I use a 10G SFP+ DAC which is effectively 2xSFP+ but with copper cable rather than RJ45s and they are just £10 each!

Shame. I had thought Ubiquiti learnt their lesson with immature firmware and PPPoE performance from the debacles years ago. I guess not.
