There have been a few changes since the initial post - I removed the internal extension wiring (no phones plugged in anyway, but that didn't seem to make much of a difference), BT screwed in a loose wire in the green CAB, and then later on replaced my D-side and E-side cables.

I've still got the issue with the ADSL disconnecting when the phone line rings, but it doesn't seem as frequent now (it was pretty much every call before the work by BT).

BT ADSL customer getting 4.1 Mbps (0.9 Mbps up) on a new road / new build development
CAB not FTTC enabled, not part of the 66% commercial plan. Not a BDUK area. Hoping the council will let VM in-fill!

That's a decent improvement to what you started with !

Yeah, I reckon removing the internal extensions may have helped slightly, perhaps 300 Kbps on the download side, the majority of the improvement is the new D side and E side cables - shorter and probably newer too.

after 6 days of running with the 2wire, these are the stats.

I reckon I'm getting 0.66 Mbps improvement (on the download rate) compared with the Home Hub

... which is a fairly good improvement to my original speeds smile

Although most of the increase is not (directly) due to the 2wire, however I did spot and report a fault as a result of getting the 2wire and monitoring it using Router Stats Lite. Plus got a very good BT engineer attending that fault.

Cheers all.

(The fault is still ongoing, but not so frequent now).

Just to bring this to a close,

The work to my line certainly helped increase the speed.

I traded a bit of that speed for stability - BT increased the interleaving to near maximum, so I get around 4.5 Mbps rather than 6 Mbps, but less disconnects. The ADSL can be up for days at a time, rather than hours!

I've gone back to the BT HH4 (BT replaced the HH3) for now, as it's more modern and more reliable (was having dns issues on the 2wire) - I'm less concerned about a bit of extra speed now I've got 4.5 Mbps rather than 1.5 Mbps!

That said, the 2wire was definitely useful, especially with routerstats lite to identify the issues with the phone line.

(Was circa 1.6 Mbps for the first 4 years)
