Government to pay our openreach costs or force openreach

Force the unlock of Exchange Only Broadband lines or provide funds cover costs

Exchange only lines are those that do not have a cabinet and are usually feet from the exchange. Due to the way the lines have been configured, EO lines that go directly into the exchange (no cabinet) cannot get super fast broadband. This is not the fault of the home owner.

OFCOM will not move this forward either so the government must step in to unlock EO lines and force companies to upgrade these lines or find a solution. This affects hundreds of properties around the country, despite being in busy towns and cities, they cannot get fast broadband. The current UK broadband backend provider (openreach) must be take over the costs and be held responsible Failing this the government must set up a fund to unlock these lines in order to offer all super fast broadband.

Well aware of the frustration people affected will be feeling, but there is a fine line to be walked between spamming people and raising awareness.

ITs not spamming, rather get signed up and help everyone

You also state that EO lines are usually very short, this isn’t correct either.

Are you spamming Virgin Media forums asking that they provide service too ?

It's not the fault of openreach either. At the time the lines were installed (surely the vast majority of them anyway) it was an appropriate and acceptable engineering decision.

I was on an Exchange Only line in a village and after enough of us registered interest in Superfast broadband we now have FTTC.

Acceptable maybe but not necessary appropriate, I have seen some crazy engineering decisions made by PO/BT/Openreach over the years so nothing surprises me any more.

Regarding EO lines, let's not forget that when these were put in, broadband didn't exist. Therefore as these were voice only lines, as most were when they were originally put in, they worked perfectly and did the job intended.

It isn't fair to say it was an engineering mistake, just because 40 or 50 years later technology has moved on.

I wouldnt say it's fair to put the cost on us to change it either - they have the contract, they are the owners, they need to give us an alternative fro super fast broadband.

Yes ADSL is at full speed, however these days everything in the house wants an internet connection, and brings it down for everyone else when it uses it.

Im sick of downloading an app and the kids all shout "Dad the internets not working!"
