Random new cabinet appeared in our village

[link to this post]

Hi all,

I have been pushing Openreach to try and get our deadspot upgraded without any positive results - they initially quoted £2,500 per house for FTTC, then refused to give me a quote to give us our own cabinet in the village (we run from another village over 2km away).

But on monday a new cabinet appeared in the village with no notice or explanaition....my question is how do i get any info on what their plans are for this cabinet? Are they connecting the whole village into it? or are they just going to let it sit because no-one has filled in the right paperwork?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Chris

It will be NP70LY or close by....I think it is the following cabinet:

Gilwern Exchange Cabinet P12 FTTC being Built, live due by July 2019 Phase CEO Escalation 21b

I just want to know who they intend to connect to it.
Thanks

Basically all properties to the south and east of the cabinet will be covered

Thanks, I assume you know this from some other source...is this something I can see or not?

Appreciate your response anyway.

Seems the logical solution given expected cabinets position which you gave and speeds of premises currently

I agree it's the logical solution - so noting that it is BT Openreach is it actually what is going to happen..wink

The vast majority of what appears in paper plans happens, and this increases once you start to see hardware appear.

Witchunt Is a reliable source with info you cannot see. Unless the cab comes up against unforeseen difficulties ( Someone complains about location or access to power) he will be 100% correct.

I hope you are the correct side of the cab to get an improved service?

Bear in mind that it will be some months after the cabinet gets powered up before existing broadband customers transfer as there is a statutory consultation period with all ISPs to gain their assent to moving their customers from their existing cabinet to the new cabinet.

We got a new AIO cabinet a couple of years ago due to our distance from the existing FTTC cabinet and it took about 6 months after the cabinet went live before the existing customers had their connections moved and their FTTC speed up from 10+ to 60+ Mbps (and prior to that ADSL < 2Mbps).
