How to use a third-party Cable Router with Virgin Broadband?

Hi, I have set up quite a few ADSL routers for people, with various ISPs, but have absolutely no experience with setting up Virgin Broadband, or Cable in general, with third-party equipment.

A friend of mine, on Virgin Cable Broadband, could really do with replacing the old NTL-250 Modem with a new wireless router such as this:

I have found no information on Virgin's "support" site with regards to this, they only mention how to set up their own equipment.

Unlike every ADSL ISP that I have come across, I cannot find a "settings" page for setting up third-party routers. Nothing seems to exist.

Is it possible to replace the existing NTL-250 Modem with a new Cable router, and if so, could someone provide me with the settings I need?

I have read that their broadband service (may) ONLY work with Virgin-supplied equipment, is this true?

If so, would "piggybacking" the existing NTL-250 Modem to a new router, and setting up the new router in "bridging" mode with DHCP turned on, work? Or how else would I have to set it up?

If anyone can shed any light on this, i'd be very grateful.

Virgin's online and telephone support is appalling, so i'd like an answer before my friend parts with any money.

You don't replace the Virgin modem, rather you plug it into the Internet port of the cable/dsl router (like you linked too)

There is no bridging mode or other complex stuff to do.
