Hi all,
As the FTTP trial in Milton Keynes forum that I started in Feb has got too long and fragmented I thought I would start a new thread.
Just to let you know that today the BT Wholesale availabilty checker showed that I can now get FTTP based on my number in Kents Hill. So for all of you that live on this estate, we have apparently been switched on at the exchange!
On another note, Plusnet responded to my enquiry on 9th Aug saying that they weren't running the trial in this area at the moment. They wasn't running trails at Walnut Tree until the switch on date but still took on trailists before then ready for that day?
Anyone got any reports that's on the trial or about to yet?

Nice to see a new thread on this.
No news about Broughton Gate, have seen that houses are going up on Brooklands (next to the M1), wondering if they'll have Fibre put in as standard?
Keep checking the ADSL wholesale site...

Nothing much to report from Walnut Tree.
I think all the cabling is in place and was told that the exchange needed "sorting" and until that is complete nothing will happen.

I've just checked my phone number and it's still saying I'm only ADSL ready and not FTTP so doesn't look like all of Kents Hill is on yet. I've been checking with Zen and Andrews & Arnold and they've both said that my postcode area (MK7 6D*) should be enabled within a few weeks as they're now receiving weekly updated from BT Openreach with release dates and the CAB I'm on (109) is still down as "too be enabled". Over at Plusnet forums they've said postcodes starting MK7 7H should've gone live last week and MK7 6H should go live this week so it's getting closer. Plusnet are definitely doing it in Kents Hill so keep on at them. Who are you with at the moment and who do you think you'll be going with as I can't decide who to change to as I'm with Sky.

An update, as today my phonenumber has been enabled as FTTP enabled, woop. Now all I have to do is sort out this [censored] Sky who can't issue me a MAC code because their systems are rubbish.

Do I get the prize for the slowest 'Broadband' speed in MK - its always slow but this morning its hot an all time low of 8 kbps according to the broadband speed test - truly shocking. FTTP cant come soon enough.
I'm in Middleton by the way which seems to be some sort of communications black hole as we also struggle with mobile phone signals and TV reception!!

Sorry but I have no idea what that even means! Bit of a technophobe here lol

Hi,
If it helps we have just finalised the last information and can now declare that we are part of the FTTP trial and are ready to accept applications for customers to be part of the trial.
The information I have had come back to me is that the trial is free until the end of Dec, then it will either be extended or will become chargeable and on contract. If any trialists did not want to continue there would be no exit fee and no liability.
As the service is a trial and does not have any bearing on phone line (unlike ADSL) then you would be advised to keep any current broadband service as is (or of course you could migrate it to us )

is there an email address to join this?

Sure, send an email to sales [at] vivaciti <dot> net and put FTTP Trial in the subject line.

Why do yo uneed a MAC code? Are you ditching ADSL and switching to FTTP? I've got an engineer booked for next week but am keeping my broadband as I need reliability and a trial doesn't necessarily lend itself to that.

I was originally going to move to Plusnet ADSL and then get on their trial but as it's taken Sky so long to do anything and still ongoing I'm just cancelling altogether and going with FTTP through Andrews & Arnold. It would've taken an additional few weeks before anything happened with Plusnet as they're awaiting delivery of routers and the changeover process but am going to go solely with FTTP and have my unlimited net through my phone if I need a backup which has a wifi router built in so can tether through there to browse the net if need be. Also don't really want to be paying for 2 seperate services if I don't need to.

Hi,
The FTTP is still in trial so might not be advisable to cease out your existing ADSL service just yet, as the FTTP can go down as part of the trial while they may tweak or push something.

I guess MK10 7DX isn't included still?
We can't find out with just the postcode I am afraid.
Countess Way, Broughton...was advised it's not part of the current trial and also as I'm in an appartment...

"In an apartment", that's a sticking point at the moment due to the fact the cables have to be installed into a building that is owned and occupied by different people. If the premises had a patch panel system, I guess maybe that fiber could be installed inside this cab sometime in the future to provide broadband?
Regarding areas that are participating in the FTTP/H trials, I am unsure as to what areas are included as it seems to have extended from the orginal areas that were earmarked. On that note, Kents Hill where I live was one of the original areas earmark for the trial and although my number came up on 29th Aug as being able to get FTTP I've heard nothing, even though I've registered my interest in joining the trial. The MK council Web Site hasn't had an update since 16th August and MKBAG's lastest news page hasn't had an update since July? So does anyone know if we have reached a technical sticking point?

Hi Stevejh
I've kept looking for info, but there is nothing around.
I know that all the cabling is in and completed in Walnut Tree.
However, there is no information (anywhere) about when and how it will be implemented.
I'm thinking it's a marketing ploy to whip up interest.
Either way, It's getting boring.

Kents Hill is live now as I'm getting mine installed on Wednesday with Andrews & Arnold. Not sure who you've contacted but A&A are the only ones that have actually been keeping me updated about when I could get it so I've gone with them and their pricing is reasonable too. There's no point talking to Plusnet as they'll only let you know once you've joined them and Zen stopped responding once I mentioned price. You could give the company that have responded on here a go but you should definitely be able to get on with A&A. Only thing is you'll have to buy your own wireless N router if you don't already have one. The ones I've seen so far are between £30 - £60 or you can get one from them for £70 plus postage pre configured.

Afaik it doesn't need to be wireless N, just a router with a WAN port that can talk PPoE. I'm going to try it with my Pc first and make sure install works before spending on a router, I have a horrible feeling there'll be a problem with the site.
That is true it doesn't need to be wireless N but without it you can't make full use of the speed which is the reason I'm joining up. The forums I've been reading have been stating issues with the wireless G routers not being able to handle and make use of the speed so wireless N makes sense to me especially as I'll be looking to stream HD and download large files so would like to make use of the full downstream I have available. I will however be getting it started using an old Linksys wireless G router I have until payday when I can go out and get a new one.

FTTP has been installed and I'm up and running. Everything went smoothly and I'm loving the increase in speed. These are my before and after speedtests (tried to copy Speedtest.net images but didn't work):
ADSL: 2Mb down, 0.67Mb up
FTTP: 17.53Mb down. 10.64Mb up
Obviously I'm slightly disappointed after reading about people getting 70+ downstream and one guy on the plusnet forum has on multiple occasions got around 107Mb. Why would mine be so low? I'm not complaining just comparing to others on the same technology.
Thanks

My thinking is it's just busy speedtest servers. Try torrenting an ubuntu image with a high seeder ratio, that should max out your connection.
Alternatively, speedtest.bbmax.co.uk always seems to have plenty of bandwidth, I've tested 60Mb/s on decent networks.
Alex, are you wirelessly connecting? I'd guess you'd want to be wired to get best speedtest. Also think you have older router which maybe won't help?
Yeah you were right it was a combination of an older router and testing wireless on that router so I went out and bought a new Linksys WRT320N which has seen my speed increase to 89 down and 10.7 up wired and 20 down and 10.5 up wireless as my PC has an older wireless card in which only supports G but will be upgrading this shortly to an N compatible card which should see it increase nicely. Unfortunately my PC isn't in an ideal place to keep it permanently wired so will make do with whatever I get with the new router and adapter. I did however just download a quicktime player update from the Apple site and got an average 2.7Mbps and 32Mb was downloaded in 12 seconds, I definitely can't argue with that.
My installation went ahead yesterday, they had to use underground cameras to find what was causing a blockage, and when it was all connected up it didn't work and they had to come back today.
I'm connected using PPPoE from my PC at the moment but only getting 12.6 MB/s download. Does that sound right? Getting 6 to 7 times my speed of this morning should be something to be ecstatic about but I was hoping for a figure in the 90s!
Wondering if the CAT5 cable that goes from my PC to the FTTP box on the other side of the house could be an issue? Connection seems stable.

Hi,
Anyone Know if the FTTP trial is going anywere near Oldbrook MK62.
I used to work for an ISP so know my way around BTW,ADSL, LLU but have been waiting for ages to get fiber when they said it was bradwell abey exchange I thought at last but I carnt find any signs of it comming this way
Don't confuse bits(b) with bytes(B), 1 byte is 8 bits of information, so your figure of 12.6 MB/s is approx 100Mb/s.
I'd be happy with that!
Would be nice if they decided to include Broughton else my parents in Caldecote will end up with a faster connection once the MK exchange is FTTC'd by 31st Dec...

curious, those who have FTTP, is the box locked? Not that i need to tinker much with it just wondering about opening ports etc for games.

BT have created a demand tracker. Vote here for Bradwell Abbey (or your preferred exchange) here! http://www.racetoinfinity.bt.com/
And yes, this is for those unlucky enough to be outside the FTTP area. Get your votes in so the FTTC is hurried up.

I've voted...c'mon letsgets votes for Bradwell Abbey...though Woburn Sands desrves it too...

Shame the Race for Infinity leader board is based on the percentage of votes for a given exchange,
How can Bradwell Abbey get in the top five when it has 29,000 connections to it?

My votes in.
Not many voting though!

Thanks in adv

Just got on the FTTP trial in MIddleton with Vivaciti. The speed is amazing now from the rubbish i used to get. I hope the rest of you folks get to trial out FTTP.

I'm in exactly the same position - was previously lucky to get much better than the old dial up 56k modem speed in Middleton but now loving the FTTP speed with Vivaciti. Great service from them too throughout the ordering and installation process. Cant praise them enough.

Hi all.
I live in Walnut Tree (MK7). I've seen engineers laying fibre
When I checked my phone line for FTTP dates. The forecast has changed from "not available" to "soon", Does anyone have any idea as to the time scale of "soon"?
