Just got hold of one of these.
DOnt suppose anyone knows much about it.
IE: How to log into the interface so I can see whats going on, if I can flash the original firmware to it and make it a normal router after the "testing" is complete.

Yeah it tried all that
its completely locked down
I think maybe it needs an actual hardware mod.

I believe you have to return it after you've finished with it. They generally email you if it is unplugged for more than a few weeks to remind you about it or to contact them to arrange the return.

That is correct!

Well, after an email to SamKnows, it seem we get to keep the box after the trials.
And there is a way to return it to a normal router, they will inform me of how to do this after the trial ends.
Seems its all good then.

I've been on the "trial" for over three years now and still get e-mails telling me if my box has been off-line for over four days or so.

From the samknows white box FAQs;
https://www.samknows.eu/faqs/
What happens to the SamKnows Whitebox at the end of the project?
At the end of the project, you may keep the Whitebox for your own personal use

That's certainly changed since the early days.
Sounds like they have so many in circulation, getting the return arranged and then repurposing the boxes might work out more expensive than just getting a new one out.

I did it a few years ago.
Keep it plugged in. At the end of the trial they push out the original firmware automatically, you don't need to do anything. You then get an email detailing it's yours to keep.

Really? I've had mine plugged in for 3 years now with no such email.

Lol. So, I wonder when the "trail" is due to end then?
I don't seem to be able to find ant information regarding things like the length of term etc.
Time for another email to SamKnows I think.

I assume it keeps going as long as Ofcom are willing to keep paying them. I'm not aware of any end date and have recently had my box replaced as the old one kept crashing - so if they are still sending out new boxes I can't believe it is ending in the near future.

Good point. I have, as I said, asked for clarification on if/when the trail may end.
I have noticed from the data logs though that since installing the box my upload speed has crashed from about 8Mb/s to just over 1Mb/s..
I hope this isnt to do with the SKWB..

Mine hasn't impacted on speeds. You could have an issue with the box though as if you have set it up to their instructions all of your network traffic (barring wireless) will be traversing the samknows router and so any problems can stop things (or slow them down).
The old box I did occasionally get sudden speed drops solved by a reboot of the samknows box.
