BT Fibre 100 (GFast)

[link to this post]

Does anyone have experience of this service?

Switched 22/12/20 and had to wait 2 weeks for line to "stabilise", during which time had 3 periods (min 15 mins to max 120) of downtime.

Next advice was to get a replacement (of their) router, which certainly seemed to make a difference. When replaced wireless connection speed was 115mbps smile

However, since last Friday 08/01/21 when router replaced their speeds have varied between 4 & 84mbps and seems very inconsistent. Now waiting on Openreach to fix an external fault (if they can find and identify).

When you replaced the router was a G.fast modem left in place, or are you using a modem/router where the G.fast element is built in?

If you've changed the G.fast modem part it is possible the new device is not so good with handling the G.fast signal.

If your BT router was the Smart Hub 2 it is good for 500 Mbps download speeds in the same room so long as devices decide to use the 5GHz signal

Originally I had a TP-Link router and a very old Openreach modem, which supplied a signal which degraded over time from 80mbps to 60mbps (the last degradation of 10mpbs,following a line fault on a pole not far from my property). This setup was replaced with a new master socket for GFast and a new BT Smart Hub 2 (no separate modem). Subsequently an engineer suggested that the BT Smart Hub 2 was not functioning correctly and it has been replaced. However BT now acknowledges that there has been an external equipment fault as since replacing the Smart Hub 2 speeds have varied between 4mbps to 80mbps, which is well below the minimum service commitment of 100mbps.

So smart hub 2 was replaced with another smart hub 2?
