Vorboss

[link to this post]

Looking at a new dedicated business connection and considering several options.

So has anyone experience with Vorboss in London?

Any thoughts (and experience especially) kindly received 😀

I suspect they will be decent quality but not cheap.

Hopefully. The commercials aren't too bad for an uncontended 10G DIA service, certainly better than Community Fibre Biz could get to comparably and a shorter 12-month term.

So if it goes completely pear-shaped all is not lost. Looking at a very ballpark 6 to 9 month build, at this point in time, as they use their own tails but via PIA

Bumping this to see if you can keep us in the loop if you go for it. They have covered a street in Knightsbridge that is close to our new office for southern domination, and I like the shiny 10gb claims.

Sure. At the moment Vorboss have completed the survey and have been doing some prep works in the street. Everything so far quite positive and no trouble.

I’ve asked them to accelerate the build from our initial discussions on timings, as in the intervening time our current supplier has decided to play silly [censored] with price uplifts. So it may go in sooner if I terminate that particular agreement earlier than expected (if it goes into breach and we have an alternative ready to go).

Getting a further update from Vorboss on Tuesday hopefully with respect to progress on the external build.

Vorboss installed their new footway chamber adjacent to the existing Openreach chamber yesterday. Finishing off the groundworks and patching it all up today.

They will run up to this new chamber using OR PIA up to the OR box, then jump across into their chamber to install a splice node enclosure, then jump back via the OR chamber and use the existing OR ducting and swept-tee into the property.

They successfully patched up the footpath and made good earlier.

Now awaiting the next stage; cable / duct pull + blow

I’ve not checked in with them recently, however they were due to complete the external works around the end of this month / early next. I’ll have a better idea in a few weeks when I have another catchup call.

Incidentally I had an update from my PM at Vorboss a day or so after I posted. External build elements are due to complete now by mid-September after some delays with obtaining street permits from the local authority. No other delays reported.

So today was Day 1 of internal install. We now have splice tray / patch panel installed in the cabinet. The external purple blown fibre tube (BFT) has been run in from the node in the street, via a 'sausage' and joined to an internal BFT going to the patch panel. A 12-fibre blown bundle has been installed from the patch panel to the node in the street - initially tried a manual push from the street, but later installed the fibre bundle from the cabinet end out to the street. Much easier.

The NTE is here and ready to be installed.

Hopefully with some remaining splicing at the node in the street, and the installation and connection of the NTE the circuit and service should be good to go tomorrow.

External purple BFT being installed, existing Openreach box below

Working the fibre through from node in the street

Fibre node

I'll add some more photos once the instal is all done

This isn't your first rodeo with these types of install, what are your requirements for needing it and is this an addition to what you already have in the same property?

Just curious, no judgement smile smile smile smile

Not my first, probably not my last. Change of provider. No other physical alternatives other than ADSL

Cheers. Hope so too. Not the end of the world if it doesn’t complete tomorrow, but be good to close it out nonetheless.

From those photos it looks like the team doing the install is the same team as we had at work. My office switched from Colt to Vorboss a few weeks ago and it seems to be working pretty well. The 10Gb connection is somewhat excessive for an office of ~100, but I'm not complaining smile

Yeah they were a really good crew to work with. Super professional, courteous and listened and acted on all instructions and requests. Nothing was too much bother.

Interesting to see all the differences between an Openreach EAD tail install and this one. Puts Vorboss in a very good light.

All done and dusted by midday. They spliced through all 12 cores from the street chamber node and also the internal run at the splice tray/patch panel. All cores OTDR'd back along the full run to their POP - so if ever an additional core (or eleven!) needs to be lit it's all ready to go. Ethernet line tests took around 1.5 hours to run and satisfactorily complete. All green lights on the NTE following and handover document issued by 5pm.

Their CSM and QA manager came over personally to meet and greet. A really nice personal touch.

Today we made our routing changes and everything is humming nicely.

They look like they build on demand to an extent, still a good option if you can work with the lead times.

Yeah the CSM mentioned a client of theirs in Putney, so clearly building further afield from their roots serving new build multi-tenancies in city high rises in zone1 / silicon roundabout / prime central / square mile territory.

Apparently they’re also building part off-net in some cases but they’re not especially keen on it.

12 month contract only with Vorboss too, rather than the usual 3 years. Of course no ECCs.
