Hey all,
I'd like to thank James and other ADSL24 staff for working with myself to get my Bonded FTTC up and running.
I'm running a RouterBoard 750G with RouterOS 5rc7 connected to the VDSL2 modems supplied by BT during the install. I've also a Netgear WNDR3700 connected to the RB750G, which is a bit of a waste, but thats simply cause i aint bothered to set anything else up for the wireless
The RB750G is running both lines on MLPPP.

Not very fast - one line should do 100mbps on its own. Does that mean you get 600GB per month?
|
|
|
|
I thought FTTC was 40mbps?

I've no idea where you'r getting your figures from, but you can check the packages HERE I meant FTTC using VDSL2, not BT's throttled product. Anyway, disregarding the fact that my LAN is faster than that, how much are you paying pm, and what usage limit do you have?

What are you on?
Really?!..... just really?
OP can you tell us what speeds you were getting from the first connection (assuming you had one before you bonded)? Have you noticed a difference in ping times etc? is there any additional lag compared to just the one line?
|
|
|
Seriously, did you just compare LAN to WAN speeds?!
I feel trolled
|
|
|
Sorry
Anyway, is this unlimited? How much per month?
|
|
|
|
Before the bonding, i was getting around 37mbps, i cant recall the ping on the single line.
Ping times are around 21ms to bbc.co.uk, thinkbroadband.com
I haven't noticed any lag at all, everything is pretty snappy as you could guess.

So very little / no difference between the pairs then. What do you use the bandwidth for (other than posting speed tests making us envious )? When OR start the 60/15meg products (est 2012?) then you will have a faster than (current infinity)fttp fibre speed
Makes we wonder if we will really need to upgrade from fttc in the next 20-30years. Especially seeing someone link wiki which stated Israel doing 200Meg bonded vdsl2.

Very cool!
Thanks for sharing.

It ain't being used for much at the moment, but when it is used, its quick
The price would probably put most people off, as it's 2 packages from your isp, and it's also double the BT line rental. I guess it depends on what FTTP is priced at etc.
Considering i went from bonded BE at 12mbps to bonded ADSL24 FTTC and ~74mbps. It's worth the extra spend.

Yeah.... but thats like saying... just because he has the extra bandwidth he has to download twice as much. That isn't the case.
I have an 8mb service... i get about 7mb because of the profile. Most of the time my line is sitting there doing nothing. Then when i need to download a 4gig file I have to wait a long time. If I had an 80mb service... I could download that 4gig file very quickly, which would make my happier because I don't want to wait for it... then my line can be nice and idle like it usually is when I'm not using it.
I don't understand why this is getting trolled so much.

Bye!

Not very fast - one line should do 100mbps on its own. Does that mean you get 600GB per month? One: It was a pic only, maybe the OP can share the link to the speedtest it was achieved on, and Two: It's FTTC and not FTTP.
His work possibly has a cable in it?

You payed £65 Pcm, plus router cost [£89], plus an extra BT line [£130]. The extra spend being 12x £65 + BT line cost x2 + the cost of <add fairy dust here>.
Er... No.

Not very fast - one line should do 100mbps on its own.
One line (if it's short enough) would be able to do 100mbps if a) FTTC wasn't capped at 40mbps and; b) the VDSL profile used by BT's FTTC went higher than 50Mbps (from memory they use '8C' - a US profile limited to 50Mbps instead of one of the European profiles which can go up to 100Mbps).
So until BT remove the cap and switch profiles one line cannot do 100Mbps on its own.

Fortunately, i don't include myself in the "group" that actually wants the moon on a plate for £10 a month. To have access to what i consider a premium product i'm quite happy to pay a premium price.
I currently pay for 2x Fibre 90 Office Pro packages from ADSL24 per month, £105.80 Total.
I currently pay for 2x BT Line Rental per month, £26 Total.
I paid 2x FTTC Installs, £100 Total (One off charge)
If we work that out, over the period of the 12 month contract, it's around £140 per month.
As i said in a previous post, i was previously with BE and had their bonded package which is priced at £66.38 a month, take into account the 2 BT line rentals again, and their one off install charge of £86.81.
This works out at around £100 per month.
As i've previously said, for an extra spend of around £40 per month, i've moved from BE bonding with a speed of around 12mbps to FTTC with a speed of around 73mbps.
£40 extra per month for a 6x speed increase? It's a no brainer imho.
So, someone mentioned the "Unlimited" word, with ADSL24 as i've previously stated i now have 2 packages, this actually doubles my peak time usage, from 90gig to 180gig (ADSL24 peak time with these packages are 8am-8pm). From 8pm each evening and all weekend i have Unlimited usage. Now as i ain't around during the day (I'm actually working) the peak time usage isn't an issue for those couple of hours that i'm actually home.
Just to clear up a couple of other points made, BE have been doing Bonding for quite some time now, i was actually part of an earlier trial. BE don't do FTTC at the moment, so the point "ADSL24 re-sell BE" is null, do they even re-sell BE LLU? I ain't sure The speed test link in my sig, if you actually take a look at the URL of this link, you should notice that it is actually hosted on the Speed Test site i used to test with, it really isn't JUST a picture

Thanks for the info, sounds like a steal.
Did ADSL24 also have to make changes at your exchange to support this?
Who is the underlying ISP they are reselling? Daisy?
|
|

do they even re-sell BE LLU? Premium LLU is resold Be.

£40 extra per month for a 6x speed increase? It's a no brainer imho.
Depends how you choose to compare it.
Could have been £30 less a month for a 3x speed increase with a single VDSL line, or compared to that option you are paying £70 extra per month for a 2x speed increase.
