Vivaciti Poor speeds

[link to this post]

Is any one else having poor speeds with Vivacitys LLU offering?
I seem to be caped to 5meg most speed tests start about 7-8 meg but quickly drop to 5 meg, I've had a few (and i do mean 2 or 3) 9meg tests so i dout it's my line or modem.

Wired or wireless, and which vivaciti LLU service/product?

They have C & W, Tiscali tails, and TalkTalk Business products, if not more. All with different characteristics.

AH - edit - just seen it is an O-Bit connection. I'm not sure these days which vivaciti service that will be, but I suspect you are on one of the traffic-managed Surfwise packages? Which also have a 100GB FUP, and a bolt-on option available to remove the TM and 100GB FUP.

That looks very much like this package. That has traffic shaping, which is not the same thing as usage restrictions, and seems to be what you are experiencing. (I think they have copy/pasted some or all of the description from the Broadband Complete page, hence the confusing mention of that where perhaps it should say "this package" rather than "broadband complete").

Note the last sentence of the description.
A file share bolt on is also available for this package removing the traffic shaping and rendering this package fully unlimited for an additional £20.40.

I agree that thats probably the package im on, given thats the only product thats avilable on my exchange ( I had to use another number to check).
However the speeds are the same regardless of the time or day of week.

What OS are you using, and desktop/tower or laptop? Given the connection speed then things are indeed poor.

What router are you using, and how up-to-date is its firmware? It may be one that is ADSL2+ enabled so connects, but doesn't function well if an old version.

I've used 2 laptops, and a desktop all with windows 7. one laptop and the desktop has done wired and wireless tests.

The router is a netgear dg834pn and a dg834gt that I borrowed.
The dg834pn has the DGTeam Rev. 1018 firmware while the GT has the latest(about 2 months ago) netgear firware.
both have given the same thoughput.

All those should be OK as well frown. Windows XP could have had a problem, or old router firmware as I said.

I'm stuck now, sorry.

No problem, I did wonder if it was my line as i do have a few FEC errors(less than 1%) but given I've had a few 9meg speed tests I think thats unlikly!
