Glad I am on the network I am on

Seeing that a lot of these other networks seem to be forcing people to take their line rental as well I am glad I am on the cable and wireless network.

I still got a choice who to get my phone service from and if I need to move it is easy peasy.

Thank goodness Cable and wireless decided this small city was worth bothering with and ADSL24 for reselling it to me.

I rather pay a couple more quid and get the choice.

That is the reason I have kept both my phone lines with BT.

Even with the rising costs from BT?

I can see the reasons for doing so, but you are now paying for line rental that isnt competitive

I went from Bt last year, don't want to go back to BT to be honest.

I am with first telecom for my phone, for the amount of time I use it, i find it is better value than Bt and other companies to be honest

MPF is not that bad as it used to be.

For example, we can convert MPF lines back to the BT network with only a £4.99 fee, rather than a new line install cost. We can also do a sim provide on the broadband, so there is no downtime on switching back to a BT based line at all.

Also, your number is not affected either way.

That depend, it may still work out cheaper for some people to stay with BT, my dad for instance gets a discount, used to be a low user rebate, but called something else now as far as i know BT are the only ones to offer that.


The other problem is now that Bt have put their prices up yet again, others will follow, so the difference will be minimal again.

the main reason I changed from Bt phone service is because of their renewable contracts, I was on their evening and weekends service and that was a renewable contract. i could have just gone to the line rental only service and been on a monthly contract, which would be ok.

but looking around I found somewhere that did a evening and weekend contract for less than Bt line rental. even if i paid for Caller Id which I have not bothered with i would still be paying less than I was with Bt.

the new contract was for 12 months, it is just about come to the end now i think. Not thinking of moving mind you unless I can get line rental only for a fiver a month and that is not going to happen

Can you have broadband on that though. I don't think you can.

It is called BT basic now, and is manly for people who is on benefits, my dad gets some because of being disabled, but he is also retired now many years ago

Yes. We recognise the importance of the internet in today's world and BT Basic has been designed to allow broadband on the line. If you do take a broadband service the cost of this will be added to the BT Basic line rental.


So you can have broadband, not that my dad will want it.

That's changed then . As I thought and ADSL24 confirmed, it used not to be the case.

I expect it is because so many disabled people now use the internet a lot, so it became necessary.

it is a different system now, it was low user rebate before, so it was only for people who did not use the phone a lot, Bt got rid of that, maybe too many people was using it.

But I think if i remember correctly they had to put a system in place so people who may rely on a phone can still have it for a lower price.


so they should, after all someone like my father who only got the phone so other people can phone him and in case he needs it for emergency should not have to pay full line rental. Just a shame everyone else can't do it.

Myself i think he would be better off getting rid of the phone and getting a Pay as you go mobile, the only problem with mobiles is that if he had to phone the emergency services they would not know where he is phoning from.
