Been on Vivaciti Surfwise for about 10 months now, and it was perfect for the first nine months, maxing out my line 24 hours a day. However, in the past month max download speeds have fallen to 6MB (while my sync speed has remained at about 15MB), and have stayed there consistently. I have tried with another router, but it has made no difference. Any suggestions?

Please can you post your line stats from the router? See here for help.

Nothing wrong there. Which Surfwise product is it you are on? There are quite a few.
When you say "maxing out my line 24 hours a day", do you mean it went at full speed whenever you checked, or that you download(ed) 24/7?

Surfwise Complete with file-share add-on (ie. unlimited downloads and no throttling).
When the connection was used to download anything, it always ran at full line-speed (approx 1.3MB). Certainly wasn't downloading 24/7, but used more than enough to notice the consistency of the connection.

Worth running the following speedtest which logs the result against your phoneline a few times - speeds matters up when talking to tech support at Vivaciti

Well you're on the best one, so I can't think why it shouldn't be performing. Sorry .

I may be completely off the mark here, but doesn't the fact that the sync speeds remain unaffected imply that it isn't a line issue?

|

Probably correct. However you need to see if you can find the error stats and see how they ramp up. What router is it?

Current uptime is admittedly only 4 hours, but no errors so far. It is a Billion 7800N.

Asked about the previous router, but the answer is in the OP.

No details, but there was some issue with an international link or similar mentioned on BE IRC last night

Definitely worth opening a ticket with Vivaciti. I'm on the partial LLU service and only been on it a month or so and it maxes out just about anytime of the day. I have a Billion 7800 wired which has a throughput problem on current 1.06e firmware. I swapped my router over to the old speedtouch and the throughput problem is solved so dont discount the router.
Having said that my speed was affected by TCP re-transmissions in the router aka pauses in big downloads say 100-200mb in size. Speedtests are unaffected as the download filesize is so small it doesn't seem to stress the router.
I'm beginning to wonder if it isnt a compatibility problem between the Billion and Broadcom Line card/DSLAM. I got set-up details from Surfwise but when I run speedtests it says O-bit telecom so maybe they are changing name. Certainly worth contacting Viva.

Thanks for the input. I have tested the connection quite thoroughly with my old router, a D-Link DSL-2640B, and come up with the same results.
I'm really at a loss, it seems like my line either has a very low profile, or my connection is being throttled.

I didn't think the full LLU had profiles, and you're paying for no throttling, most likely a network problem.

That will be because your service is provided over the O-bit network.
Surfwise is just the name O-bit use for their broadband offerings.
