C&W reseller who takes over the line too?

[link to this post]

I'm having trouble finding a new supplier for my broadband.

Main requirements are a static IP and unlimited broadband so I don't have to monitor the usage.

I am looking for a C&W reseller but I would also prefer the line rental is taken over as well?

Do any of the C&W resellers take over the line?

If I can't have the line rental taken over which would you choose as your C&W reseller:

ADSL24 or Xilo?

I'm not impressed by BT recently so is there a popular and well regarded company who could take over only my line rental?

TIA!

Also is it possible to lower the C&W SNR using a broadcom ADSL2+ modem/router?

I read it recently but I can't find the post about some ADSL2+ a broadcom router can be used to manipulate the SNR?

You can alter the SNR yourself if you prefer and C&W have relaxed the profiles of late allowing for specific SNR requests too.

We can take over the line too if you like, £12.60 line rental per month.

Thanks Matt.

I see where I've been confused, I couldn't find line rental information on Xilo but just now I found it on ADSL24 finally and it's a separate transfer for the line rental.

I thought it would be a transfer of line rental and broadband in the same ordering page!

Not at the moment, once you've ordered the broadband, just pop us the request and we'll get that ordered within the hour for you.

I didn't think I could go for broadband complete with you guys because it says there is FUP and so it won't be C&W LLU?

I'm realising I am wrong again and it'll be a separate transfer of phone line then I can order C&W LLU?

Where's that requirement come from? You never had it originally nor with BT. Why hobble yourself unnecessarily?

Here you go again being silly.

Very very few people need a static IP address. I'd be almost certain you don't know what it is of use for to you. Therefore you may have made a decision that could cost you a fair bit, from something you have read that could be utter rhubarb.

You can't believe everything you read on the web.

OP is very concerned about monthly cost and gets very angry when it seems too high.

Yet most ISPs, if they do Static IP at all, charge a monthly additional fee for Static IP.

While he does not even know why he wants Static IP and is confused as is his wont.

Most ironic grin !

Bear in mind though if you ever want to switch back to a BT Wholesale based line with either BT Retail (they're the ones that run the TV ads) or an ISP offering Wholesale Line Rental (WLR) then you could potentially face a hefty connection fee depending on the provider.

If you are just not happy with BT Retail there are plenty of other WLR providers out there.

Personally I have my line rental through Zen Internet and my broadband through Xilo using O2 Wholesale DSL (It'll come up as BE 16 if available in your area if you order through Xilo)

if you do it that way the provider will handle all of the stuff with Wholesale and Openreach such as if you have a fault and you won't have to deal with Retail at all.

Both Zen and Xilo provide excellent service and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending either.

I moved to Xilo because my usage was starting to exceed my allowance with Zen and I also wanted to try and increase speed and stability on my long line as both O2 and C&W seem to offer the ISP more fine tuning over the line parameters.

I'm pleased to report Xilo has ticket all boxes and I now have a faster and more stable connection than ever before and I have full confidence that if there is a problem they will do everything they can to help.

Regarding the need for more than one IP address Rob is absolutely right unless you are hosting services such as a webserver on your connection you really don't need an IP block.

Virgin (ADSL) => Namesco => Newnet => O2 => Plusnet => Zen => Newnet => Zen => Freeola => Vivaciti (using O2 Wholesale DSL) => Xilo (C&W Wholesale) => Xilo (Be Wholesale)
Note: I don't lay turf for anyone. astro or otherwise, all views and opinions expressed are my own based on experience.

Both Xilo, and ADSL24, for example, will provide static IP addresses on cheap packages for no extra charge. You implied the OP was concerned about cost, yet wanted a static IP. You don't have to splash extra cash to have one.

From what I can see most ISPs who provide a static IP will do so for a one-off fee or for free.
some ISPs treat it as a premium service. These would be the ISPs best avoided by anybody who cares about the service they receive.

A "Return to Donor" order incurs no fee.
