Line card selecting G.DMT instead of ADSL2+

My sync dropped at 4am and came back from 18mbit to 8 mbit G.DMT. Any ideas? I have unchecked the G.DMT box in the router settings but I am really puzzled why it went back to G.DMT when ADSL2+ was available. Thoughts? Never happened on LLU.

Is this on a BTw connection? If so, did upstream go to ADSL Max value of 448K or stay around its normal c.1 Meg?

Yes it is a BTw connection now and downloads were around 380 kbps, but it went into ADSL1 mode so not sure what the upload limit is for this protocol, think it is 448.

Can you force it to use ADSL2+ mode?

Limit of ADSL protocol is over 832Kbps, but ADSL as sold by BT Wholesale usually limited to 448 Kbps upstream, unless paying for Premium access.

If its 21CN ADSL2+ line, and you get capped to ADSL mode then probably DLM banding has kicked in. Pester ISP time, if there is no fault on the line to get the DLM reset.
