G.Network Fibre in London

Has anyone had any experience with www.g.network in London? They have just dug up my street but I can't find any reviews online of their service.

They appear to be digging up half of the streets in north London at the moment, which on top of the LTN’s and other ‘temporary’ covid related road restrictions makes driving in the capital utterly maddening..but I digress!!”

Did you ever get connected to them?

They dug up our road in March / April 2020, which was fun in the heat trying to do video calls with all the noise. Then nothing until about September when they ran a cable to the bottom of our block (we're low rise ex-Council TMO). Since then - nothing. The cable is just lying in the midst of the rose bush downstairs.

Checking the postcode checker, no joy. I'm already registered as interested, so I'd hope they'd get in touch if they had plans.

My fear is that our estate (a) isn't a snazzy apartment block full of young professionals and (b) Virgin cable is across the area. It would be hard to compete with a cheap Virgin TV+cable+phone bundle. Problem is, I used to have Virgin and the local netowrk here is hopelessly over utlilised. One time I was disconnected from a remote session with a client in Australia - looking out of my kitchen window I could see the Virgin engineer who'd disconnected me while he was fiddling in their cabinet. Moving from Virgin to Zen, even though the headline speeds are lower, feels faster because the network is better managed.

I might flyer the neighbours and ask them to register interest, even if they have no intention of signing up!

I spent 9 months trying to get a G.network connection to a 12 flat block in Marylebone - I had to have two surveys, landlord permission etc. and waited weeks/months between each step. In the end we had an agreed route into the building but the landlord wanted £3K for wayleave and legal fees which the managing agents won't approve so in the end I went with a Three 5G solution which works very well and is about the same price as the G.network 150Mbps tier.

There are plenty of reviews on TrustPilot:

Cerberus FTTP + pfSense + UniFi nanoHD

I took a punt on community fibre in the end. They also didn’t have mush info available online at the time. However the whole experience was pretty great. They worked with the building managers on the install and kept me in the loop.
