Ghost.. AAISP?

Just ordered Ghost Broadband, moving from Vodafone. I assume it is a BTw connection from AAISP and likely will just show as AAISP on the speed test/IP ranges?

Nope, you'll be getting a connection from Structured Communications when performing speed tests.

IP ranges belong to Structured Communications for IPv4 and Structured Communications Global for IPv6.

They are very good and great if you get any issues. Been with them over 12 months and they finally pushed Openreach to relay cable from the cabinet to my premises as the connection would drop out every time it rained.

Just so you know, Openreach will put a new drop cable from the house to the nearest DP (distribution point) not the cab.

Based on my experience of having had this done on an underground line in the past.

Thanks! Good to know. Seems you get what you pay for. I still have Vodafone Gigafast at another premises but their FTTC is much different not just in technology used, but the routing is different etc. Been pretty poor the last couple of months.

The work was pushed for by me through Ghost. There was water ingress in the two chambers to the cab that I'm connected too that had ruined the DP which is opposite the cabinet.

Due to the state of the copper, the cables were relaid to 20 properties served by the cabinet in my street.

The DP also underwent major overhaul as well due to damage having been submerged for long periods

Due to the fact that the majority of the population in my area are over 60, BT deemed they could keep ignoring it as the problem went away with dry weather..

However due to constant dropping and resyncing making the line unusable every time it rained, they spent £20k repairing and replacing.

Maybe they will be able to get my Aerial Wire changed, it is the old shotgun/figure of 8 style light grey/white cable.

Ghost broadband, who the hell are they? Why not just go with AAISP directly?

I didn't go with AAISP because:

1.) I don't want a data cap.
2.) Ghost provided proof of their priority routing for gaming platforms and streaming platforms which I preferred.
3.) I didn't want to go with a main stream provider who would see me as a number and not a human customer.

What makes you think they are linked in any way to AAISP? I can't find anything that would indicate that.

They used to get backhaul from AAISP, but have since got their own infrastructure.

Where did you get that info from?

AAISP don't have their own backhaul AFAIK.
They use BT Wholesale or Talktalk Business for backhaul.

They jumped on a thread before about them saying that they used to be involved with AAISP, but then got their own backhaul. #dontshootthemessenger.

GhostBB don't have their own backhaul, and neither do AAISP.

Just to clarify this and resolve any confusion. We use the Firebrick FB6202`s in our network which is where the AAISP involvement would have come from.

The hardware and support has been amazing which is why we continue to use them.

So I’m due to switch over to Ghost from Vodafone on Wednesday.. strangely and likely not related my sync speed has started to dive. When I left Uno for Vodafone I was syncing in the high 40’s (9up) using an old HG612. Then I got Vodafone which sync’d in the low 40’s with their older router (it died) and with their newest router/modem VOX3, but say a month after using that it started to tame the sync till now I’m syncing at 32mb, with a high SnR and interleaving of 16.
Now it is an old drop wire being the old white/grey double (figure of 8) cable but has been fine until now. I am aware Vodafone puts lines into stable and BTw usually have them on Speed.

Do we think when I switch we will see any difference and after C-19 engineering restrictions reduce I should ask nicely for a new cable into my house? Seems the previous owner was abroad when they replaced all my neighbours cables!

I was getting rid of Vodafone for shoddy customer service and locally several of us on the same exchange noticing Vodafone slowing at peak times, despite my other Vodafone connection a Gigafast FTTH one at another location, not seeing the same.

When the connection goes live, Drop us a ticket and we will go over the circuit and act where needed to sort out any faults

Ghost website offers little info on packages, looks like a budget isp.

The low sync and high SNRM is because your line has been banded/capped at 32.4Mb.
It will never sync above this figure unless DLM removes the cap.

During your switch to Ghost the cap should be removed.

Banding/capping is put on lines that resync too often.
Don't reboot the modem repeatedly and report any fault that causes the line to resync over and over.

The gaming packages offered by Structured Communications are under the Ghost gaming brand. They're not a separate ISP and neither are they a budget outfit. As good as the likes of A&A, Trunk Networks, Fluidone et al if not better.

You are right about the cap and seems for now i'm syncing a good bit higher. Interleaving seems to be on quite high but i assume that might be due to my cabinet brand.

I trust you swerved their line rental and horrendous call charges.

There's nothing wrong with the prices they charge.

If you use your landline for calls now, you're in a minority.

The end user pays what they are willing to pay for more than just the connection. It's about the quality of service and reliability for me.

Supporting a smaller ISP that can raise and resolve issues quickly is worth the extra for me. I've spent months trying to get big ISP's to fix a simple fault, that Ghost took 1 month to fix (a lot of it was due to Openreach dragging their heels).

I'm not disputing the quality of service that's no better than Zen, though I suspect many others would find 10P per minute and 18p to mobiles expensive in this age of 1p or free calls. Zen GEA FTTC is business-grade and the latency is better than anything GHost I've seen despite their claims of superb latency for gamers.

Thanks Bob, 'twas probably pre Zen Lol ... Fixed live. few dropped packets tonight with bogged down old pc updating windows. Brand new Gaming machine delivered today to set up and may regrade Zen to 76Mbps.

Well the poor old dell I had here was about ten years old. Posting this on the new machine after installing Windows ten for my favorite price, just have to remember all else to go on now. Horses running. Set outside a dental workshop 30 miles away for an hour while work done an and found three winners lol My three race fit and looking forward to Getaway Trump being let loose again, you've seen his finishing speed and will be interesting to see how the old boy is this year. Year Latency low on Zen and can honestly say they have been the best I have been with and you know I have suffered a few.

From looking at the IPv4 peering that Ghost use AS199283 i can see they forgot Choopa LLC AS20473 what runs some activision games like e.g call of duty servers not the xbox 360 as they go with P2P connections but again most xbox and playstation games do so you think they peer with the largest ISP like BT, TalkTalk and Sky - Mixer uses SoftLayer AS36351 as many gamers seem to stream on this platform but more on the Xbox side then Playstation.
