Has anyone got Community Fibre IPv6 set up right?

[link to this post]

Have had service installed yesterday (1G/1G - the speedtest is majestic) however can't get IPv6 to work properly with my own kit or their Velops. Velops are useless so am planning to use my own pfSense router anyway but used velops just to see if it was an issue with my kit or their service.

Seems that a /48 is delivered via PD (the interface gets a /128 address, with the /48 passed through) but doesn't actually get to the internet. Setup so far was to allocate a /64 to my LAN, which allows devices to get a v6 address but no access despite DNS etc all being set up and tested with a HEnet tunnel.

Interestingly, the gateway for the v6 is always marked as 'pending', which leads me to believe it's not supplying a router address therefore there's no upstream access.

Interesting to see if anyone also had the same and if it was resolved (and how!)

Hi,

I just got it installed now too and I'm using pfSense. I haven't gotten it to work but I'll try again.

Well they use DHCP for both IPv4 and IPv6 so you just need to set those up.

IPv4 is pretty straightforward, IPv6 you are basically requesting for the Prefix which is a /48 prefix.
Hopefully your router is able to create a full IPv6 address, my router creates a /64 address from that.

But for some reason I cannot get DHCPv6 Client on Windows 10 to work, its never worked on any of my routers even the supplied LinkSys one, I have always used Neighbouring for IPv6.

Like I said in the other post I had to phone them up to clear the MAC Cache for both IPv4 and IPv6.

Paul

I only did some very basic testing but my router (Mikrotik) obtained a prefix as soon as the DHCP client started looking. I think you get a /48 regardless what prefix length you specify.

On Mikrotik I just assigned the ::1 address to the router and whatever remnants of 6in4 configuration were still there from when I was experimenting with he.net took over and I had IPv6 connectivity on the LAN.

I then disabled it pending time to configure properly. In a few weeks I'll be able to be more useful, hopefully you get an answer before then.

Thanks all - I should've updated this and said I eventually got it working after asking CF to check on their end if everything was fine. There's packet loss but at least I can actually use v6 internet!

Apologies for butting in here, but I don't know where else to post this query, and people in this thread seem to have the sort of knowledge I (think I) need.

I'm hoping that someone will point me to a 'blow by blow' to use my Draytek 2860 WAN input with a Community Fibre Adtran modem. One online comment I've seen says
Regarding your router, you should only need to set up the WAN port for DHCP for IPv4 [I'm thinking that is the same as 'obtain ip address automatically] and DHCP with Prefix Delegation (PD) for IPv6. No PPoE or anything.

I think my router automatically asks for a prefix automatically - no need for me to do anything there.

I also think that CF lock their service to a router MAC address, and so I may well have to spoof that.

This is a residential set-up, and so I need only one external IP address.

If anyone reading this can provide detailed settings that work, I'd be very grateful.

Bit late in reading this so hope you have it sorted. Standard dhcp4 and dhcp6 PD /48. Yes, you'll need the MAC address though you can always ask tech support to clear the existing one if you have problems. IPv6 was a problem for me ( and others ) but again support sorted it out by re-provisioning and it;s been solid since. I use an Opnsense based router and it has no issues at all. Cannot be more detailed as it's several years since i used a Draytek.

Are you still seeing packet loss on IPv6?
I'm seeing it also, and have not bothered about it untiil now, but it needs to be resolved.

Still seeing it, yep. I ended up turning off DHCPv6 in the end as it was messing around with some work stuff I use. CF seem adamant it's nothing bad but I've had no time to deal with it! If a group of us who are impacted all contacted CF on this, might be a better strategy to show it's not an isolated case and something that NEEDS fixing

Link local to my upstream gateway shows no loss so that rulles out anything this end, but if I set to my monitor target to a google dns for example it wil vary between no loss and 6%. Doing a traceroute the first GUA I see on the traceroute, whch is 2a02:6b60:0:89::1, I'm seeing loss to that.
