Shell Full Fibre 900 moving home

[link to this post]

Have sold my current home and moving out on or before 29th July I am still struggling to find a place to rent as I decided not to buy again. If i find a place to rent that would allow me to move my current service its says on Shell's website:

MOVING HOME: If you move home during your Minimum Period, this will come to an end and you will start a new 12 or 18 month contract from the date your Service goes live at your new address.

It seems unfair to force you into a new contract with a potentially higher monthly cost as I wouldn't qualify for a new customer deal

So does this mean I can leave and go to another provider without incurring penalties?

Also potentially it says

An engineer appointment and excavation work may be required for which you will need to obtain any necessary prior consent. In most cases your service will start on the day of that appointment but we’ll let you know if that’s not possible.

If the letting agent / landlord refuse excavation work not sure what best to do?

No, it does not. You have a contract with them for a minimum period, so you would have to pay them for the remaining months.

If the property I am moving to isn't covered by Shell what would happen then?

Check the contract you signed. In many cases you still owe the money, even if you can't receive the services. Shell (and other ISPs) may have to pay their suppliers for the 12 or 18 months term, even if you are allowed to leave early.

When choosing to move home you should budget for early termination of any contracts you are still within the minimum term period of.

If Shell consume Openreach products, then it likely, but not guaranteed , that Shell will be able to offer service at the new address, even if isn’t FTTP,
It appears most ISP’s in these circumstances will waive the ETC at your old location on the proviso that you take some sort of service with them at the new ,IMHO , a new contract isn’t unreasonable, if you used someone else at the new location it would be with a minimum term as well , obviously if you don’t agree to this you can simply pay the ETC and use whoever you like at the new address….however , you do occasionally see consumers who for no obvious reason are excused the ETC even though they haven’t used the old provider at the new address when that option was available …so it’s worth asking, but a more fundamental issue could be , if you don’t have a new address to give them until after you have moved out , or only a few days before , then your old account may be closed if whoever moves into your address is in the process of taking over the line

Not so much that, but they do have to recoup various up-front costs they have incurred: e.g. the cost of the installation, the router, and possibly a salesperson's commission.

The same as what happened when LLU came into existence.

Connections: OnePlus 8 Pro on Three 4+ (LTE)/5G and at home Three Mobile, with (Three)ZTE MF286D router giving about 113/20Mbps.
