Giganet - Maintenance loss of self account management

[link to this post]

Hey All

I've just received a very strange email from Giganet stating that there is planned maintenance to my broadband next week and I will lose connection for up to 5 mins between 1-5am one day next week which is fine happens at least once a month tbh but this is first time they've emailed about it though

What is confusing me is that in the same email, they say that after this maintenance I will lose the ability to log into my customer portal for account information or updates. No confirmation as to how long this will be and that if I want to make any changes I am to email or phone.

Does anyone have any inkling of what is going on? Its a cityfibre provided FTTP in bolton

Thanks

Andy

See Ya

Sounds like you been moved to a different part of their network, on reddit is stories of new customers having no access from day 1, alongside been forced on CGNAT with no option of static IP, so doesnt bode well I am afraid.

Please keep us updated.

Im afraid it does sound like you will be moved onto a CGNAT network, all same symptons I had when I was moved without notice. They did say they will offer static IP from end of May or early June, and who knows this may happen, but I left as I had seen similar promises of when static would be available which passed without happening.
I asked many times to be ceased straight away so I could go somewhere else (you cant go elsewhere without it being ceased first) but it was never done, then out of the blue one day I was disconnected, I was never told when it would be disconnected, frankly it was a disgrace and I'm well rid of them. Luckly I have redundancy so I wasnt too bothered.
I contacted a new ISP who got me back connected in the space of a few hours with a nice static IP and few quid cheaper as a bonus.

After 4 weeks they finally replied to my support ticket stating I was on CGNAT and couldnt have a fixed IP till sometime the following month ( believe it when i see it!) As a stopgap I am using tailscale so I can extern,,ally connect into my NAS , bit of a pain as I need it installed on every node although 'Funnel' should mean that can be avoided too but I am struggling with how to set that up.

Surely migrations should be the same on CF as on Openreach, seems ridiculous that you need to give notice before another provider can take on the service and this is something OFCOM need to harmonise, so the rules are the same across the rest of the coms industry..

--edit--
just seen that this should have been a thing from beginning of April and Ofcom are doing a formal investigation as to why, the 'one touch switch' as they call it, isnt ready!
